I truly wish I could say I've only screwed up like that once. I've found that my 4630 can effortlessly power through the parking brake, might be slightly sluggish but I often attribute that to a cold engine. I try hard not to do it any more.

I only use the parking brake when the engine is idling...not that that hasn't prevented me from driving off.
If the tractor is shut down, I leave it in gear.

Tractor brakes left on aren't too bad but how about cars?

I drove from town to home (4 miles) with mine set (2001 Taurus) (obviously not set hard enough). My clue was the smoke coming out from under the car and the smell. Decided a couple miles up the road and back to cool em down would be a "good idea (tm)".

Afternoon Swampvol,
Yeah, dont worry too much about the brake incident ! No sooner did I get my Massey loader tractor and swung a little wide into my Uncle Daves' barn and partially smashed one of his slider doors  He revoked my Vt tractor operators licsence for 6 months ! ;) :) Its amazing what 5000 lbs will do to a wood door !;)

I leave ours in high gear (Range 2, Gear 4) when I park it - that way it struggles to go forward when the brake is on. (I can back up all day in any gear and not feel it when the brake is on?!?) Leave it in low gear (Range 2, Gear 1) and you can power across the yard with the PB on, 1000lbs of dirt in the FEL and the single blade down and not notice a thing.

I have seldom found the need to use Range 1 or Range 3.

Oh well. No harm, no foul.

Get a tractor with the red light on the dash warning of your brake, that may help. I have a 3320 and it has helped me several times. The best way to avoid driving with the brake on it don't put it on to begin with. I am as flat as a pancake and rolling isn't a concern around here.

Uh.. why not? My 95hp tractor barely grunts to drive thru the p=brake.. and the wet brakes DO work nicely.. just not strong enough to resist the engine.

Attention, allways put parking brake on very, very hard and then you will not drive with it on, this applies to anything with parking or emergency brakes. A simple method that allways works, you wont be brake burners anymore.

I have a red warning light on my dash that tells me when the parking brake is on. It also lights anytime I step on the brakes too. I have still driven off with the brake engaged! The tractor is just too powerful no matter How hard I set the brake. LOL ... I have thought about adding a physical post or bar to the brake that moves up towards the seat when I set the brake so it would jab me in the butt or leg or prevent me from sitting comfortably in the seat.

Electro shock therapy for leaving that brake on. Mine has certainly been left on a couple of times but it's an oil cooled bath type brake so it's not like it will get real hot.

Hey don't feel so bad. We've all done something like that. Who'd want a tractor that died because the Pbrake was on?

Classic joke in the aviation community: How does a (favorite service Marine, Navy, Air Force, etc.) pilot know his gear are up?

It takes after burner to taxi. :D

So a little parking brake drag is no big deal.
