Snowblower I Shrunk my Snowblower

That chute rotater is well laid out.
\Nice installation.
They are ideal due to torque, speed and cost for that chore and I have posted this suggestion a few times
Don't know what you used for control switch, but a standard spring loaded DPDT switch (center off)can handle that job nicely.

I have several switches at various spots on the tractor. The one I use the most is mounted on the back of the seat several inches below my arm pit. When I sit sidesaddle, it's right below where my right hand is most of the time. Has a big bat handle.

Living in GA. the only snowblower I see is on here. I've seen some great setups and innovative ideas that I would've never seen around here. Thanks for your post and picture layout. By the way I'm glad we don't need that tool. It sometimes snows a little but we just close everything and wait for it to melt. :)

Wow. Great job shrinking your snow blower
Good write up. I didn't shrink mine but did take most of it apart to service it, replacing bearings and sand blasting and painting. But I could not get the impeller off.

It turned out great should bet good for another 30 years. I imagine if I was retired and looking for projects this is something I would tackle.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. My wife tells me to be careful I don't hurt something trying to pat myself on the back. :sarcastic:

JerryK... Your auger does look like mine and I believe mine did come from Ontario. I've looked at older Lucknows and they appear identical to mine, even the chute. I wonder if the two outfits were connected somehow? I also like your chute swing setup - very neat. Mine is homemade hydraulic, but if I were starting from scratch I would copy yours.

JCByrd24... My gearbox actually has a drain hole on the bottom. I considered cutting a hole in the housing, but it would have to be right where a structural brace is. Since I found my suction gun did such a good job cleaning the contaminated oil out (no sign at all of any water on the final drain by tipping), I decided not to get into that. You are right, a little time spent every few years to disassemble and refurbish will pay off in the long run.

Steave... Sometimes I feel like closing everything and waiting for it to melt.

I've learned a lot over the years from what others have shared here on TBN, I'm just happy to share some of my triumphs and follies. Happy New Year folks!

..........Danged if that little tractor didn't handle the big blower like a champ! The only problem was that the blower is 20 in. wider than my FEL bucket, I use both for snow removal, and I've had a few close calls nearly side-swiping things with the blower when using the FEL.........

Your workmanship is very nice but I think I would have taken the easy route and made a couple of bolt-on extensions for the bucket instead! :D

Hey, now you have another fun project, widening the fel. ;)

I considered that and it may still be in the works (eventually) to match the narrowed blower. If I widened the bucket to the full 74", I would have to get rid of some stuff in my garage to make it fit, and I just can't make myself get rid of stuff. Or I could build a bigger garage...hmmm. Actually, the narrowed blower lets me get into some tighter spots much easier than before. I like it.

Nice job and some interesting ways of doing things. I have a blower I would like to widen 6 to 8 inches. Your work pumps up the confidence a bit.
