I still haven’t gotten the garden tiller out

Went out to the garage to get the garden tiller.

“Let’s see, need to move these seed bags up off the floor so I can get to it”
“That table is covered with paint cans”
“Where’s the lumber for that shelf I was going to put up to store all these cans?”
“Oh yeah, it’s in the other building with the chainsaws”
“Man, I’ve got to get these chainsaws organized”
“I should build a stand for them”
“Where’s my mitre saw?”

3 days later…

Wife: “When are going to till my garden?”
Me: “I’m working on it.”

I looked at mine last Sunday... I need to get it out and start turning up the ground. Luckily I put in a raised bed last fall so was able to get some peas and onion sets in. It's early yet here anyways, soil temps just got up over 60.

I made one pass with the tiller yesterday, wanting to get my peas in. The rest of the garden is a good 3 weeks out.

We are having a cold wet spring. A storm last weekend dumped 3" real fast.

I got the tiller out two weeks ago. Tilled two of three plots. (all I'm gonna till) Put it away again. It did take about 1/2 an hour to get to the back of the shed in order to pull the Troy-Built Pony out from it's resting spot. It took less time than that to do the tilling!

I'm working on "no-till". Planted onions right in with the winter rye.
The wife isn't so enthused about the idea. It looks ragged, and she likes clean seed beds for everything. AND,SHE IS ALWAYS RIGHT! ;-)

I plowed then tilled two weeks ago, but just planted cold weather plants: onions, greens, potatoes. Still too early for warm weather plants (31 degrees this morning).

Got mine out over the weekend, made sure it started then put it back for another couple weeks. Still a bit too wet.

"No till" doesn't really work well here, soil is heavy on silt, and that compacts over time too much. Am thinking of putting in a few raised beds to cut down on what needs to be tilled.

Yep. We are mostly raised beds and containers now. Anything very far from the house gets decimated by deer anyway.

Last freeze is supposed to be tonight. I'll be getting the tiller out this weekend and hopefully plant a couple hundred canna lilies and some wildflowers.
