I remember years ago North Carolina had an exemption for all farm purchases such as tractors from state taxes. That changed and what started out @ 1% has now increased to the normal state sales tax rate for all agriculture purchases. So, the FEL that I just purchased for $2850 had an additional 8% tax added to it. That's the cost of doing business these days.
You can obtain an agricultural sales tax exemption for ag. purchases in NC if you have the required ag. income. You have to obtain an Exemption ID if you qualify. The required application form is E-595EA.Sales and Use Tax Forms and Certificates
