I'm up in the mountains of Vermont. I'm the last one on a private ROW about 3/4 of a mile from the main road. My driveway is another 1/3 of a mile and my nearest neighbor who also plows is a good 1/2" mile from me. For the first 3 years all I had was my truck for plowing.

Usually about 3 times a year I would have to also use my dozer to push snow banks back into the woods because they were just too high. All along my driveway and road I have places to push snow but you will be amazed how quickly they fill up. My original plan was to get an old 1/2 ton 4wd truck but I found this 4wd for under a grand so I bought it. I now know a 1/2 ton would mean non stop plowing on large storms.

Most people just don't understand what it means to be back in the woods with nobody around you to help. A large snow storm in Feb could stay on the ground until late April before it melts. Two or three large storms in one month could really test you.

I would ask the some of the Kioti guys but I would think your tractor is on the small side. I would be torn on whether or not to buy the correct size blower only to find out that you need more tractor and now have a blower that too small for the new tractor. A snowcat, if you can find one, would probably be a good idea.

Now that's the kind of plow truck I'd like. You paid under a grand for that monster? Anymore where it came from?

Not under a grand, that's a heck of a deal by the looks of it. But, you would be surprised how cheap that size truck is if you look around the used market. I think it's because they are too small for most commercial uses and too big for the average homeowner. Which makes them just right for a lucky few :)

I couldn't see how many miles of road you plow. I do one driveway that its 3/4 mile and another that is almost as long on my route. I use a 50 hp Kubota with a 7 ft blower on the back. 12" of snow 7 ft wide is about 2 mph. 4" of snow is about 5 mph.

The adjacent property has the driveway plowed, but then I'm hired in Feb/March to blow the banks back as he runs out of room.

Crazyal, ex fire truck I assume? We had a similar truck set up as a brushbreaker. Are those chains that are on the rear tires? A V plow could probably be picked up at a municipal auction for short money. Makes my one ton dually 4x4 envious. Bill C

Actually I have 2 of them, both 4wd. The first I bought the first one from a guy just north of Boston for $800, it was an old army corps dump truck (navy blue). The second was from a local highway dept. It was an old hose truck the fire dept didn't want anymore so they gave it to the town. They used it to put chloride down on the dirt roads. But after a year they decided it was easier to buy a 10k trailer and put the tank on that so they put it up for auction. I got it for $300.

I think because they are internationals people didn't look twice at them. I think $300 was below scrap value, not bad for a truck I drove home. I mixed and matched the two of them because the firetruck had a great running engine but the chloride rusted the rear of the frame pretty good and it was quite a bit longer than the dump truck.

My neighbors have old 1/2 tons with plows. They laugh as I push the snow banks back into the woods they can't budge. Having a real frame and 12k lbs I can get quite a bit of snow moving. Even so after a couple of years it became clear that a tractor with a blower was needed.
