Sometimes I put up a post mainly so the list of similar threads will appear. It's often more productive for me than doing a search.

If you have fuel to and thru the filter, and you have loosened the injector lines and cranked it over and gotten fuel out of the lines, tighten the lines up and
tow start the tractor. A simple high gear tow start will start a gear transmission tractor after fuel issues much better then cranking your starter and running batteries down and burning up starters.

Make sure the filter bowl is full. I ran my Mitsu dry (didn't know I left so little fuel in it while stored). What I ended up doing to 'prime' the filter bowl was to remove the fuel line downstream and put a siphon on it to completely empty the filter housing of air. Reconnected the fuel line, primed the injectors and she fired right up. There must be air where there should be fuel.

Injector pumps can not pump air!
You have to bleed out all air to the point that only fuel flows up to the injector pump.
Sometimes simply cracking the last fitting will do the trick and other times you need to crank the engine.
If the system is gravity up to the injector pump then bleeding by gravity will work.
Other style uses a lift pump and those need to be cranked over to bleed*.

Once bled up to the injector pump it will start up but also cracking one injector line will speed things up somewhat.
With only one line cracked the engine will run a few mins kinda funny like until the other lines get cleared of air, but it will smooth out shortly.

* some lift pumps have a lever to manually prime.

I checked the diesel that I'd drained when I changed the filter per Spanner's instructions and found little trash and no water. With a freshly charged battery, I bled two of the injector lines again and it fired up. Now it's running as well as it did before it quit. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM!

Believe it or not but WD 40 works good with a friends help hitting spurts into the air intake to start a tractor that ran out of fuel. Also a good way to check to see if fuel issue anything a diesel does not want to start but does turn over.

I wanted to try something like that and can see the diagnostic value, that you mentioned, BUT, my tractor has a device that I think helps it start in cold weather. It's called "Thermostart" and the operator's manual says SEVERE DAMAGE WILL RESULT if I use ether or starting fluid. Wouldn't WD40 or even diesel fuel sprayed into the intake come under that same warning?

I am surprised that you asked the question.
I see you have over 2500 posts.

With that much experience, you are someone I would be looking for for help.

I guess sometimes like me, you can not see the forest for the trees.
And experience and knowledge are two different things. You knew what to do, but never had done it.

Of course I sometimes have to fix something many times before I learn how to fix it.
