Re: I think I\'m Removing the Foldable ROPS...

Does anyone know how the ROPS came about and why you don't see them on lawn tractors, for instance my Kubota G2160? Is it only a matter of time do you figure???

Eric....don't do it! if anything happens then your heirs and or you will not be able to claim anything against Kubota even if it is their fault!
I have a 2200 and wouldn't consider removing any equipment. If you do opt to remove the ROPS then don't use your seat belt as you will want to be thrown free from the rig...a 1000 pound rig sure will put the hurt into you!
Good luck!

Took me a minute or two to figure this one out myself Eric. Fishman is asking you if your life is worth a branch. If not, then remove the ROPS. If it is worth more than the branch, then get the pole-saw and remove the branch.

Re: I think I\'m Removing the Foldable ROPS...

I lost a friend last summer that was mowing his yard with a new riding lawn tractor (no ROPS). His lawn was as flat as a pancake, but he was in the ditch mowing when the tractor flipped over, pinning him under it. By the time he was found, it was too late.

Life is short enough, enjoy as much of it as you can.

Before you remove the ROPS, sits your kids down and tell them what the ROPS is for and why you want to remove it.

Re: I think I\'m Removing the Foldable ROPS...

That's exactly my point, Bubba Jr.
I have tractors running up and down my road almost all year round, many of them of the skinny variety because of working in the vineyards, and even the newer looking ones don't have a ROPS. Seems that they would have one added on for insurance purpposes. I never see them on lawn tractors either. I was wondering if there was something with CUTs that make them more prone to rolling over.
I still won't take my G2160 across a slope any more than my old B7500 for mowing, the pucker factor is just too high, but my neighbor cuts across it like no tomorrow on his Cub Cadet. It doesn't make any difference to me if I had the ROPs or not, but it seems like they should be on ALL tractors regardless of size.

Re: I think I\'m Removing the Foldable ROPS...

Please DON'T remove your ROPS. After hurricane Isabelle came through the area (September 03) I was using my 3130 to drag some logs out of the way for my mother-in-law. Everything was going so well, I started to get off an on the tractor with out puttin on my seatbelt. I was dragging a log @ 15 feet long. The log dug into the ground and stopped my progress. Since I was so confident in the 3130 and my skills as an operator, I pulled forward, raised the bucket and hit the reverse pedal for all it was worth. The right front tire sunk into a soft spot and the tractors left rear wheel came so far off of the ground I lifted my right foot in preparation to jump clear. I honestly believe that if were like the old 9N, it would have came over. Don't know what the outcome would have been, but certainly glad I don't know.

Just my own personal experience and the reason why I wear the seatbelt and have ROPS up at all times.
