Massey Ferguson/ MF165 Mahindra 4025 4wd
To make a long story short, I bought a new Mahindra 4025 4wd in 2013. I致e had lots of issues with from day one. I was hoping to get an electrical issue and coolant leaked fixed before the warranty ran out. I致e had these problems since day one and they were never fixed correctly. The tractor has about 246 hours on it and just had a head gasket put on.
Anyway, take a look at the CEO痴 email. What do you think? Is he telling me to pack sand in a very passive aggressive way or does he lack reading comprehension. I tried to take all of the names out of the email string except for Mr. Iyer the CEO. I was also dealing with Mahindra customer service and a VP.

Hi Mr X,

I am glad the tractor is working normal and wish u have all the fun with the toy.

Regards
Mani

I would like to share with you why I didn稚 buy a new Mahindra 3550. I wanted a new tractor partly because I wanted a new toy, partly because there are features that I dislike about the 4025 and primarily, I知 concerned about the reliability of my 4025. Below is some light reading for you. Honestly, I have not been impressed with my tractor (2013 4025 4wd). It is almost 5 years old and it痴 been a lemon. I was actually very close to buying a new Mahindra tractor this week until I got the response below. I was going to give Mahindra the benefit of the doubt on this machine and upgrade There are a couple of feature that I would like to have and I wasn稚 comfortable now that my warranty is about to expire and it needed a head gasket with 241 hours on it. I really like my dealer, and he would have been the reason why I was sticking with Mahindra.
I do think Mahindra needs to address the known coolant leak, just for environmental impact alone.
I would suspect I am squarely in your target demographic as far as; income, age, land size, education, etc

Mr. X,
I am not sure how the emails through the website work exactly. But, I do know there are different types of categories to choose from.
I get product warranty so, if you choose anything else I may or may not get the email. This time you chose warranty so it came to me. I checked my email folder for any previous emails from you and there were none in my folder. I thought maybe I missed one or maybe it had gotten filed before it was answered but I did not find any from you in my folder. So not sure where your previous emails ended up. For that I am sorry.
I have been forwarding your emails to the service manager for your area and he was already aware of the issues you have had and he knew the tractor had already gotten a new head gasket.
Have a happy Friday!

Kindest Regards,

I have contacted Mahindra on several occasion. I know that they received my emails, because the dealer had a copy of the emails or was told verbally about the emails (he knew things in those emails). At the end of the day I feel like I was sold a lemon. Not by the dealer, by Mahindra.

I got to the point that I was just living with the issues. I can change fuses every 10 hours, add coolant on a regular basis, however I was quite frustrated that the tractor needed a head gasket with 241 hours on it and now the warranty is about to expire. I have never ran that coolant low and I use coolant spec called for in the manual. That is why I reached out to Mahindra to voice my frustration, I honestly didn稚 expect a reply.

Quality Issues,

1. Upper radiator hose was loose, (found within the first week of owning the tractor, I fixed)
2. Brake light would just stay on (dealer fixed, within the first couple months of owning the tractor)
3. The tractor would blow the dash fuse every couple of hours (started within the first month of owning the tractor, dealer replaced the fuse with a 20amp fuse. From that point forward I had to replace the fuse every 10 hours. Until recently it stopped working all together)
a. This ended up being a shorted wire (the dealer fixed the wire, problem seems to be fixed)
4. Four grease fittings on the loader where never greased (I fixed, first week of owning the tractor)
5. Parking brake handle fell apart, all of the bolts that hold it to the fender came loose (approx. 80 hours on the tractor)
6. U-bolt on the drawbar came loose, Mahindra has since redesigned it with pins instead of bolts (approx. 80 hours on the tractor, I paid for the new u-bolt)
7. The positive battery cable was improperly crimped, actually came apart at the crimp on the starter side of the cable. (This was a problem early on, sometimes the tractor didn稚 charge, I ended up replacing 2 batteries before I figured out the problem)
8. All of the loader bolts were loose, I paid the dealer an hour of labor to go over the tractor an make sure all of the bolts were tight (at his recommendation)
a. Last night I went through the loader manual, I wanted to make sure I didn稚 miss any recommendations for checking those bolts or PMs. I did not. BUT, I did discover the tractor never came with the signed install check sheet that shows the loader was installed correctly.
9. Ignition was loose, (came loose within the first year of owning it)
10. Other random loose bolts, lost 2 bolts on the drawbar. I知 not sure if this is a quality control problem or insufficient torque values.
11. Now with 241 hours on it, it is at the dealership with a blown head gasket

Design issues,
1. Loader was designed around R4 tires, The R1 tires on the tractor are approximately 1.5 inches taller. (I discovered and told Mahindra about this problem, (first week of owning the tractor).
a. The supplied loader stand was to short to remove the loader, blocks need to be put under the stand to remove the loader.
b. Mahindra supplied a new stand many months later (only after I sent emails to VPs at Mahindra, they contacted the dealer but never acknowledged me)
c. Loader does don稚 dig to advertised specs with R1 tires, frustrating but I learned to deal with it
2. The radiator hoses leaks (leaked since day 1, dealer has tightened hose)
a. Dealer confirmed that this is known issue and his brother has seen this at the assembly plant on brand new tractors
i. This seems like a pretty big environmental issue, especially if it is known design flaw that Mahindra is willfully ignoring it
b. Dealer says it is because of 菟orous rubber? I will need a chemical engineer to explain this to me. Porous rubber is not the cause; it痴 because of insufficient clamping force or a lack of a tortuous path. I have not actually taken this apart, but I知 pretty sure I could diagnose the problem if someone gave me the drawings.

Thank you,

I知 not trying to be insulting! I just want to understand why I知 just now hearing from you!! Most customer痴 that have problems with their tractor that the dealership cannot repair contact me within at least a month or so. I can send someone to the dealership to help with repairs.
I answer every email that comes to my email address and I do not have anything to do with reviews that are posted.

I find your response very insulting. I'm not trying to be difficult, but I have sent 3 other request to Mahindra, that have never been answered. I've submitted reviews on the Mahindra website about this tractor, that were never posted.

I'm not asking for the technician to make a house call. The tractor is at the dealer. I don't believe the tractor was ever built to sound manufacturing standards.

Ironically, I was going to trade this tractor in on a new Mahindra this week, I can assure you that I m done with Mahindra now. ‎ Unfortunately I like the local dealer.

Thank you,

Dear Mr. ******,
Thank you for contacting Mahindra USA.
Please accept my apologies for the issues you have experienced with your tractor.
If there has been a problem with your tractor since 2013 why are you just now voicing a complaint?
Our technicians do not make house calls. But, if your tractor is at the dealership the dealer can call Mahindra for technical help or call their Mahindra service manager for technical assistance.
Please contact your local Mahindra dealer and make arrangements to take your tractor to them.
Thanks for choosing Mahindra and have a great afternoon.

I've had a coolant leak since day one. It seems to be worse in the winter. The dealer first blamed it on cheap hose clamps . He now says it is a know problem with "porous rubber hoses".

It has had electrical issues from day one. More loose bolts than I can count. 4 of the grease fittings on the loader were dry. The battery cable crimp came undone, and now with a month left on the warranty it needs a new head gasket because of an oil leak.

Does this seam reasonable? I I have no faith in it. Is there any chance I could have a mahindra tech go over the tractor? Is it typical that all of the loader bolts would come loose? My drawbar bolts came loose, (actually lost 2 of them).

At least you got some kind of correspondence back from them regarding your problems. They flat out refused to discuss my concerns with me.

There will be no Mahindra red in my barn.
I had considered it !

I do like my Indian medical doctor though.

It may or may not be a coincidence but the local Red tractor dealer here has iron on his lot that has had a couple birthdays there.. they are now Pink and not red, ..The local Orange dealer moves inventory pretty fast.. always new stuff coming in and going right out.

What type of response or action were you looking for from them? Looking through your communication thread it looks like most of your e-mails to them were expressing unhappiness about your tractor and giving them history about it. (I'm not saying you don't have any right to be unhappy...) But you didn't ask them for any specific action or outcome, such as "please call me to discuss" or "I want XYZ fixed before the warranty ends." Short of them saying "I'm sorry about your problems, bring it to the dealer and we'll try to fix them." what more would you have expected? What I see is that you complained about various things and they listened.

As for the short answer to your original question, I don't think their response was to tell you to **** off. You expressed your general/specific displeasure and they listened.

Rob

PS: You actually got 2-way communication with the CEO of a company. Directly, without an exec secretary or customer service in the middle. That's more than you get at pretty much any other big company.

BigBlue1, that is a valid criticism. I was mostly frustrated. The one VP did call me, we talked about some stuff but he never followed up with me as promised. At the end of the day, there really isn't much they can do for me. I wish they would have communicated with me better, but ultimately I wanted to vent my frustration. I seriously would have bought a brand new 3550 had they just sent a followup email.

I will say this: on a tractor you have to check every nut and bolt, early and often. Something coming loose at 50 hours is on me. Five hours, on someone else. It would be nearly impossible to tell if someone greased a zerk or not if they were neat about it, but again: that's one of the things I did immediately.
Things that come loose or need greasing don't even enter in the picture for me. Those are what you buy free with every tractor (though you'll find that after the first time or two, things don't come loose very often.)
So that list, for me, just became a whole bunch shorter.

CincyFlyer, there is zero doubt about the zirk fittings being greased, I was trying to show a pattern of QA issues.

I can concede somewhat on the fasteners needing to be checked, but a properly installed mechanical fastener should not come loose. I have serious doubts that anybody climbs under a brand new truck to look for loose bolts.
