I tought I was retired....

I've been officially retired form my 9 to 5 job about 6 years. Moved to the farm full time. Before we retired, we used to come down on weekends and get everything done. Now there aren't enough hours in a day. How is that possible?
When your retired you are your own boss. So if there are not enough hours in the day talk to your boss about that.

When I retired I started ending phone calls with the phrase, "Call me if you need me". Now I (actually we) are the family 'go to' people if anybody needs anything done.

I retired from Dell Computer in 2013 thinking I would catch up on a few projects left for the future. Well, more honey do projects came up and I am just now getting to the ones I have wanted to do. The JD 1020 restoration/repair has been a lot of fun at times when it was not too much oil and grease flying about. COVID-19 social distancing has been strictly enforced in Austin where I live so I go to the ranch and able to stay away from everything but the cattle and sheep. Burning the piles of cedar and mesquite has presented much opportunity to stay as busy as I want to stay.

Retirement means you don't have the week-ends off!It has been twelve years for me;run my "hobby business" at my own speed.More something to meet people and kill time.

I never worked so hard after retirement as I did when I was employed. But I keep telling myself "If you enjoy the work you're doing, it's not work."

A few months after I retired I told my wife that I was going back to work, I needed a rest.

I thought I was retired too.

I worked hard, and since 18 years old, had a plan and worked towards it so that I could retire early, and I did, at 42 years old. I am not lazy (obviously), as I had a working farm at that point, and planned to just work the rest of my days out doing that, instead of building ships.

Then I got cancer...I am not fully out of the woods yet on that, as I have had three bouts of cancer, but I ended up spending a lot of money to stay alive.

The doctors wanted me to take disability, but at 45 years old? There had to be something I could do to contribute to society, even if there is no way I can farm any more. It took a few months, but now I work for the US Dept of Labor, working with underprivileged kids so they can be employable. It is the best job ever. EVER. Very challenging, but the greater the risk, the greater the reward too.

I had one person state that I "never really retired", but that is not the case. I retired early because I learned at a young age, that you put the work in up front, and reap the rewards later. But I have also learned that man makes his plans, but God directs his steps.

Good for you BrokeTrack! I'll bet it is very rewarding .

I was mostly self employed, now going back just to help out I find the boss is just as bad and as unforgiving as ever as well as lying to my wife about how much I get paid:p

I thought I was retired about 2 years ago. I'm now semi-retired. A month after I retired, I got a call and was requested to help in a different department. I've been working 3 days a week ever since, unfortunately as an essential employee.
