Lively - How did the SP work?

I've been thinking about using it on my Zero turn mower deck also.

We'll to be honest with you I really haven't evaluated it yet. I mowed late last Thursday and haven't bothered to clean it off. I didn't get done mowing until 9 and then had to pack for a trip. I have to mow again later this week and will assess it's usefullness then. I did note that grass did stick to the deck, however the true test will be how easy it is to clean. I am hoping just a garden hose would be sufficient. I will get back later once Iassess its usefullness.

I know I am looking forward to your report. My dad wants to try some on his ZTR if it helps much at all.

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Busy summer I guess. I really haven't tried washing the deck off yet. Haven't really even mowed much since I put the Slip Plate on (too dry) However, it seems that the grass comes off fairly good with a scraper. Once I get a chance I want to see how is washes off with a garden hose. Never seems to be enough time to get done what you want..... I still have to finish making mods on my detatcher and re-wire my trailer before the fall grass planting season starts up again....

Maybe you guys here have some advice. I have a Z-Force 50 with the washer system. It seems to work just fine, but I choose not to use it. I mow 5 acres that is in a really sandy area and want the build up to protect the underside of my deck. Anyone else dealig with sandy loam? About 1 acre of it has nice st. augustine but all the rest is just wild grass and wild flowers...and lots of sand...

I have sand, but the green gunk won't protect your deck.

There will be areas of bare metal and the sand will concentrate it's abrasion in those areas. Plus the gunk will mess up the air flow so the grass doesn't stand up leading to poor cut quality.

If you really are worried, you may want to have it coated with the stuff they spray on truck beds. (?) that may help (?)

Has anyone sprayed their deck with the bedliner stuff? It seems to be really tough, but it also seems to be a pain to clean. I have heard complaints about cleaning out truck beds - mulch, etc - that everything sticks.

I have heard if you paint the deck with "Slip Plate" it works pretty good for keeping the grass from sticking. i am going to try to paint my deck with it this winter.

There are at least two kinds of spray on bedliners. Most of the new stuff is not shiny and pretty gritty., but I remember a few years ago seeing some that were pretty smooth and shiny. Sounds like a GREAT idea though! I'd love to hear from someone who's done this.

We coat the underside of the mower decks with WD40. After mowing all day we simply wash the underside with a hose and spray nozzle and 99% of the grass comes off.

I think just about all of the lubricants in this category will work. Try it and see if it works for you. Sure beats scraping the grass off.

I applied two spray coats of Slip Plate to the underside of my deck at the beginning of the season. I just cleaned it and noted that the area's where the Slip Plate still remained the grass came off easily - but there was still some grass there. However there were large area's where the sand/grass/debris had just blasted the Slip Plate right off the deck. So it seems like the areas where you need it most are the areas where it isn't durable enough.

I all fairness, I just got done renovating my lawn so I had some areas where I'm sure a lot of sand/soil was getting sucked up and blasting the deck. In addition to my "yard" I also mow my 2 acre orchard so there are a lot of twigs and apples and stuff on the ground.

I would love to hear from someone who sprayed a slick Rhino liner under their deck.

I'm going to try this tomorrow :D

I hate cleaning the mower deck

Hey Loogie.......
Get the brush on slip plate. I put at least three coats on heavy. The spray is pretty thin.

I live down south and can't find slip plate or any other brand locally. Where is a good place to buy it online?

   / I want a Clean Mower Deck! #35
I did a search for slip plate and found their website... imagine the surprise to see they sell a product called 'Mower Guard'. I guess B.D knows what he's talking about! The application video is pretty good but couldn't make out what Kubota model that was...

Slip Plate

They have a 'Where to Buy' page to search for local dealers and also show online sellers... Here is a link to Grainger + Slip Plate

Google rocks! :D

Thanks coppertop808, I never thought of Granger. We have one locally and I will check them out.

Honest to God I didn't know they made that stuff specifically for mowers. My railroad buddies and I have been using it on our mowers for years with great success. (It does eventually wear off so you have to re-apply it occasionally)

I have been putting it on mold boards, trailer ball hitches, 3 point hitch pins etc etc. Anything that you want lubricated without getting it all over yourself later.

I have used the spray and found the brush on stuff went on thicker.

John Deere sells Slip Plate under their own label. It's part# TY25797. All dealers should have it. I suggest multiple coats.

I'm just wondering how its working out. I just stumbled onto this thread and may give it a try.

How often do you need to reapply? Once a month, once a summer...?
