Another vote for going reasonably big.
I'll add another consideration. If you have wrecked 3 trucks plowing snow, you probably have not only a lot of snow to move, but a tricky road too. Which may lead to a wayward vehicle skidding off into the shoulder. If you needed to, you should have a rig that is strong enought to pull a pickup out of a ditch, but maybe no so big that the same truck could not pull the tractor out of the ditch. The reason I say this is that it always seems like the largest and strongest machine gets stuck first.
Also don't forget to add tire chains, for whatever particular tire you choose, to your list.
