Wow, scary story. Glad you had the cab, but not as glad as you are!! Can you imagine if you did not have it!!!

Nice looking rig!

WOW! With your allergy to stings, that cab almost surely saved your life.

Thank goodness I don't have that allergy. In the past I have stirred up ground bees when baling and I've never owned a cabbed tractor. I just bought a new tractor and you can bet that I REALLY wanted a cab, but it's just too far out of my budget. I suppose if I had the allergy, I would find a way to make it fit my budget.

I sure am glad you're okay.

I was mowing a few days ago, looked out the cab window, and saw this . Cab is good.

Pete

Thats an old, unused nest. Note the holes in it, and the lack of 'guards':)

Don, it may well be old. I don't remember seeing it up this winter, and you can see it from the house. I didn't quite have the nerve to "knock on the front door" and see if anyone was home . I have mowed with the riding mower right underneath it, and weed wacked within 12 feet of it though and no doubt some of that had to happen while it was active.

It was about 65 degrees what I was by it, and cloudy. Don't know how cold it has to be for the guards to go into the house.

It still got my attention though, and after a second or so of "golly gee", I had to laugh. Hopefully it still makes a point about a plus side of being in a cabbed tractor.

Glad your OK. I've been wanting a cab for years, primarily for this reason.

Wow, it looks like you have someone looking out for you upstairs. Glad you're okay. As for me, I've only owned my current tractor and it has a cab. However when I started looking at tractors and realized that I could have an air conditioned cab on a tractor this size, I knew that I was going to have a cab. Anything I ever buy to replace my current rig will also have a cab, that is now a non negoitable item for me.

Your luck has turned jeff, it sure did on this one anyhow. Way I figure it, when a man gets up in years, perhaps like you are, and for sure I am, it's time for the toys to be what we really need, not just a toy to get by with. Last winter my 3/8 mile long drive had 4 foot foot drifts of snow in sections of it. A cab tractor, heat, comfort, would allow a man to spend as long as it took to remove it, when the wind is at 30 MPH and it's -15 degrees. 10K for a cab?, well worth it.

Well, my luck ran out today......:(

Years of tractor work and I found my first insect nest. I say "insect" because I have no idea WHAT these things are. Obviously a stinging insect- as the one that landed on my face demonstrated:smiley_aafz:

I was moving old metal roofing that was crushed together- using the FEL. When I nudged it the first time I saw just a few start flying on the far side. I found where the nest was, not too big. So I decided to nudge it further to where I wanted it. Second time, quite a few more came out, but stayed rather close to their nest.

Being "smart" I went to the garage and grabbed a can of "wasp and hornet" spray and proceeded to soak the nest and "fogging" the ones flying around it.

Came back a while later and too my surprise......... they were still alive and working the nest:confused: (so much for kills on contact). I used up the rest of the can and figured it should be good. WRONG!

Went back later and no change, they would fly around the nest when nudged, but they did not "attack".

Only thing left to do....burn the brush and dry grass in and around the roofing metal:thumbsup: So, the "wasp roast" commenced and I was sure it would be good..........:mur:

Not sure what the hack these things are...perhaps evil spawn of the underworld- or possibly more/larger nest underneath.

I think tomorrow I will go out with some pyro-dex and take care of business:D

Yep same thing happened to me. They swarmed the cab and I thought there was a Solar Eclipse. The whole cab went dark inside. I know there are some tough guys here on this site and some who even think cabs define ones masculinity, but I can't tell you how many times the cab has saved me from some serious injury from branches, thorny bushes, etc.

Also for me in 120 degree temps, if I want to get anything done I NEED the air in the cab.

Now for you guys that I see on this site plowing snow in a blizzard below zero, my hats off to you. I'm gettin too old for that kind of fun:laughing:
