Hmmm... What to say about this?

IMHO, this is a TRACTOR forum for the free exchange of ideas. If someone wants to take extra time and effort to write a post complete with theme, 2 drafts, spell and grammar checked, I say go for it. (I've exaggerated to make a point, nobody get offended now /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif )

I appreciate quality writing AND the extra time and care one takes to be thorough and helpful.

I also appreciate the input of the person who simply adds his knowledge to the discussion, regardless of writing or spelling style. I'm happy they are willing to share with the rest of us.

It sounds like a difference of opinion based upon formal written English and conversational English. Correct your friends' grammar and pronunciation every time they speak to you and it won't be long before you need a new set of friends. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

*** End of soapbox ***

Just something to think about /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My wife frequently corrects my speech..... does that mean that I need a new wife?????
We joke about the time that we went to a trade show and there was a man from the Orient displaying some of his companies wares. After talking to him for a while, I started to talk just like he was talking to me. In broken English. I didn't realize that I was doing this, and neither did he. It was only after we walked away after placing an order with his company that she pointed this out to me. We both had a good laugh about it. We continue to do business with him, and his English has become much better, and I have lost my Far East English dialect..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Junkman,

Don't claim you got that from anything I said [notice 10 foot pole pushing computer away /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ]

Your ability to adapt and overcome in the above example is an ability we all have, and some are naturally better at it than others.

It's been shown in child studies that if two children of different ages play together, the younger child will play at a more advanced level and the older child will play at a regressed stage so the two can get close enough to play well together.

Both benefit.

Now, I'm not calling anyone children or anything of the like. Just quoting a study with the point that heck, if kids can do it, surely we can manage /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

"" Correct your friends' grammar and pronunciation every time they speak ""

My suggestion was and is : "When you post a message, or reply, please take a little extra time to review, edit, capitalize, and spell check your message before you post it!"

There is nothing in that statement about reviewing and correcting anyone but oneself!! The intent is to make posts more clearly, easily, and therefore widely read. A well written post can bring pride to the author and pleasure to the reader!

Fourteen,

Just trying to help you understand why you're getting grief from most. It's not the message, it's the delivery.

A little friendly observation...

Good luck.

Doing this will make the transfer of ideas much more pleasant for all of us. Thanks!! </font>

This does not seem to hold true -- this thread is proof.
