Personally I would leave it to the pro's , they have the proper machines and it will be done right, not saying you can't do it, but i wonder how long it will take and how close to the edge do you need to work?

I had a fiberglass pool installed last June. They dug the hole with a skid steer loader with a leveling bucket and shot the hole many times to ensure the hole correct depth and the floor was level.

I'm with Frank on this one. I had my pool professionally done. They brought out a BIG Komatsu track hoe, dug the hole and poured the concrete walls in one day. They finished the entire job in 2-1/2 days.

There is a lot of piping that has to be done and it is critical that this is done correctly to avoid PVC pipes from coming apart due to soil settling.

I know a guy who had a fiberglass pool and drained it to make some repairs. He left the water out for several days and apparently water got underneath it and it floated up out of the ground about 8" /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Just something to think about.

DIY. You already spent money on the machine, USE IT. Slope or step your banks and have a ball punching a hole in terra firma. Get the specs and reccomendations from the guys selling the pool.

I agree with Varmintmist, DIY. I did our gunite pool myself 15 years ago.(dug the hole and the small pond and stream beds that run into the pool) Got all the sub contractors myself. The people that I had talked to all said that what I wanted could not be done for less than 40,000. Well, I did it for under 10,000. Now it didn't get done in 3-4 weeks, it took some time. It probably isn't as good as if I had hired the entire project out. But I saved a lot of money and have the satisfaction of having done it myself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm curious about this myself. Bought the wife an in ground pool kit (see link) and figured with the Kioti TLB and time, she'd have a pool not otherwise in the budget. We read on TBN about digging ponds, foundations, etc, so why not a pool?
