Me, too. And I don't recall seeing or hearing of an ice cream spade, but it appears to be something I could use. We've got a couple of ice cream scoops, but it was sure hard work digging that frozen ice cream out of the container to make myself a chocolate malt a couple of hours ago.:)

Places like Cold Stone Creamery.. and other 'make it in front of you' places use these to scoop out froze icecream and then 'fold in' other ingredients.. like nuts and candy, on a frozen marble countertop while you wait.

Maybee NH wanted something different from JD products.. and that was the only thing they could think of that JD hasn't marketed yet??

I will admit I have never seen something like this so what is its purpose? I have seen numerous types of ice cream scoops but a spade?

Well maybe the New Holland engineers have finally found their nitch!!   .

Wait till they foward it to their safety dept.
1. The 2 bolts that hold the wood together will have a small sticker next to each reminding us to check torque regularly. Then they will produce a diagram showing the proper order to tighten them.

2. They will drill 2 holes at the end of the wood handle, run a piece of raw hide thru it to wrap around your wrist and call it...Roll Out Of Hand Protection!!

3. It will have to have a warranty void if reminder: Like using this equipment for unautherize use like scooping poop out of litter box will render your warranty void!

4. It will have to have This Side UP and This Side Down markings in both English, and Spanish.

5. Caution notices telling us that eye protection must be worn at all times becuase flying ice cream can cause blindness!!

getting the spoon wet with water really makes a huge difference in scooping it out.

Yep, it does. And being lactose intolerant would be a terrible handicap to have.

but I bet with Robert being home all day, he's gonna find all sorts of new things on the web. hahaha

Yeah, I keep trying to think of things to look up to keep me busy. The ice cream spade came to me via an e-mail from NH. At least I wasn't the only one who didn't know what one of these things were:)

I just wish New Holland would put the blue leaf logo on some nice drinking glasses so I can replace the John Deere ones that were given to me:rolleyes:

We have had one of those spades for years and it works great. I was wondering if they still made them and where we could get a replacement, now I know. Thanks!!!!

Hey Eddie, I have been lactose intolerant for years. Get some Lactaid and enjoy, life's to short to miss out on the good stuff. Prevention of Lactose Intolerance Symptoms - LACTAIDョ

The real purpose of an ice cream spade is for scraping down the sides of the bulk 3 gallon ice cream containers used in restaurants and ice cream shops. If you scrape the sides down daily and fold the sidewall remnants into the bottom/center, then no ice cream is lost. If you allow ice cream to stay on the sides a day or two, it will harden and become unuseable. I was shown this daily task about 35 years ago. Years later when I ran Howard Johnson restaurants for a few years, this was considered a punishment job every day. If I told you to go scrape down all 30 or so buckets of ice cream, you were low man that day. Each bucket will require about 10-20 downward strokes to fold the ice cream into the bottom and center. Is is virtually impossible to do this without your arm contacting the top edge of the bucket. It's a messy and sticky job. Do this for 20-30 buckets and you see why this is a hated job by anyone who has to do it. Especially if they have to do it DAILY!!!!

By the way, the design of the NH spade is too narrow and the end is not curved enough to be a "real" spade.

Eddie, in my 40s' I also became Lactose intolerant and the pill does not help me. One answer for us old folk :D is ice cream made without dairy milk.
Of course the best is homemade and here is my favorite lactose free chocolate ice cream recipe. It's smooth and taste like a fudgesicle.

4 cups soy or rice milk
2 tablespoons arrowroot powder or corn starch
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Combine 1/4 cup of the soy or rice milk with the arrowroot powder or corn starch set aside. Whisk remaining milk with the cocoa powder and sugar over warm heat till simmer whisk in the first 1/4 cup milk and bring to boil. Stir in chocolate chips and vanilla, chill in refrigerator 3 hours and then freeze in ice cream maker. Makes 1 1/4 quarts.

Since my china ice cream maker started leaking I'm looking for a good new one, any suggestions?

It's sure been a long time since we made any homemade ice cream; used to have a hand cranked ice cream maker, then an electric, even used to make some that we just froze in ice trays when I was a kid, but now just buy it. And while I think the big name brands are good, the old cheap stuff from Walmart ain't bad. And that's what I used last night with a little malted milk, chocolate syrup, and whole milk to make a chocolate milk shake.

And that ice cream spade really does make it easier to dig the ice cream out of the bucket; a lot easier, in fact.:D

For those Lactose intollerant people, just an interesting observation. My BIL thought he was Lactose intolerant, but he eventually figured out that comercial ice cream bothered him but home made did not. He was obviously intolerant of something else in the comercial stuff.
