Ice storm 2013 in Northern NY

About 2 and a half feet of snow up here at the camp near mont laurier and it just keep coming!! Let it snow

In central Maine- just a couple inches of sleet- ball bearing snow! Easy plowing. The ice storm predicted- never got bad though we had some rain. More freezing rain for tonight- but not bad. --- 7-8 inches on the ground so far. Back on Tuesday it was 20 below-

I'm in that area south of you birdman. About 12 miles from Watertown. No power since 4 AM Sunday and none predicted til 11:30 Xmas eve night.
The Bobcat hasn't worked too bad for scraping some layers of ice & crusty snow out. Way better than either of my past tractors ever did.

Blowing it away is the way to go!

Almost like blowing sand; quite strange

I had a lot of trouble getting the blower to bite; even with full downpressure and the front tires in the air. The blower just rode on the surface, as did the tractor! By running back and forth over the ice a few times I could get the rear tire chains to start breaking it up, and then that was enough of a weakness that then the blower could bite with downpressure. Once the ice actually got into the blower it handled it well (it came out of the chute just like crushed ice for drinks) but there was so much weight in the ice I had to go slow to keep from bogging down.

Took about 3x longer than normal to blow.

Had power until 20 minutes ago; now we're on generator.

Thanks Dave! We're not looking too bad. Shut down gen and changed oil this morning. Power never went out less than a half mile away so gen gas to keep pellet stove running and kero for the backup heat are just down the road at the convenience store.

Hope you get back up soon;calling for below zero the next couple of days.I had one pheasant pen come down...nothing I can do until we get a thaw.Inch and one half of sheet ice..I don't believe any blower would touch it.

Good to hear that you can get gas locally.

I delivered a generator up to Ottawa, in the big '98 storm. Driving at night, for hours, without seeing power on anywhere - definitely had a post-apocalyptic feel to it.

Still plenty of branches coming down, let's all be careful when out and about.
