PBinWA, I think you hit on it pretty well. Tilling is the best way to get air to the soil and get the rocks up for picking. The problem I learned the hard way as well is that by fluffin the dirt up and then running a cultipacker over it looked great until it rained and everything settled. It would be best to either water, wait for rain and then probably run a heavy drag over it.

That looks like what I had in mind except I think your design looks better than what I had in my mind. Thanks for sharing the picture. What brand of rollers are those, or how much do they weigh?

I like the roto tilling idea because it allows the mixing of tired soil with fresh soil from below. Or am I wrong?

I just bought a 7 foot cultipacker at a small farmette auction for 82 dollars.
