Hi, here's the thought. Tire skins, I would like to be able to convert my ag tires to turf without changing tires. I'm thinking something like a track kit but not. Deflate the tire slip on the skin and inflate. Vola! a turf tire. Mabe a truck tire without most of the sidewall. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hmm.
Tell you what.
You try it first and let us know how well it worked.
And by all means, please post pictures. It'll be a hoot!

How about "Tire Tread Convertors"?

Actually, I think it's a revolutionary idea and I would by a set for my 4WD. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

What about belt tracks? Or single tracks for each wheel?

Here is something I found just for info on tires and tracks

Tires/Rubber Belt Tracks

Not sure what you would do with the front wheels turning left and right to stop the tracks from falling off and how to steer (if they are set up front to back).

Mr. Steve, we're talking about a single slip-on belt for each tire that would convert either a Ag tread to a Turf tread and visa-versa.

I have seen what you refered to and agree that steerring would be a problem. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Phil -

I'll bet you might have been somewhat preparing yourself for some less-than-enthusiastic responses, but you know what? I think you've got a pretty interesting idea there.

I'm thinking maybe the skins could be fastened to the tires much the same way that chains are, with hooks and tensioners. Maintaining the correct lead/lag ratios for FWMA (aka 4WD) would have to be taken into account, but give yourself a pat on the back for coming up with a pretty darned good idea.

You could even get super fancy and design the skins so the tire side of them had material bonded to them that would fill in the gaps between either R4 or R1 lugs.

Anyway, good job of thinking outside the box!

Thanks for the input, i'm always trying to save a buck and effort. I will pursue this idea a little more. I just didn't know if they already exsisted. I did think of filling the gaps that way they would still work on worn tires as well. Most of the bearing pressure should be on the low point allowing for tire wear.
Thanks again fot the input

Oh I know, I was just putting something else out there, like the track on EACH tire thought.

Phil,
I'd jump on it... In my experience, you may have hurt yourself by mentioning it in a forum.. These guys telling you it wont work are probably drawing them up for pattent approval as we speak.. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif..

I'd go for it, someone will buy it.. It can be a rubber band with sides..As for the filler material, how about the "memory foam" they use for beds and stuff?? It would fill the void and provide more even tire "pressure" on the ground.. Just a thought.. But definitly go for it, there have been outright stupid ideas that have made people a fortune in the past..
