Thanks for the web links. These are the machines I had in mind to make. Seems Europe is light years ahead of us in the smaller , more economical, environmental friendly tools.

I have been thinking the same thing for some time. I have mountains of horse exhaust and bedding available for nothing plus access to municiple supplied leaves and grass clippings. The question I don't have handle on is the size of the market for compost in my area. I'd hate to make an investment in time and money and get nothing for it.

Where are you located? I know there is a market it is just a matter of getting some cured mix and trying it out. Manure is a wonderful free renewable resource in todays weird world . Making compost will not get me rich but it feels good making it.

Wichita has a company that "buys" (don't know what their arrangement is) the zoo's doo. They also charge people to dump limbs and non-CCA wood. I don't know if they get grass clippings or not, but they make compost in a huge way. They have several cat hi-loaders, and giant tub grinders, for mixing the mountains of stuff. They segregate their piles, and load out of the cured one.

Last year it was $30/yard, loaded on your truck/trailer. They also have contract haulers that will haul it for you. And they have a monster truck that can blow compost on your yard. They can add to it: grass seed, fertilizer, etc. Parts sold separately.

This should give you an idea of what's there in our area.

Gmol I talked to my friend at the chicken farm and he told me he doesnt use his chopper since he bought his housecleaner. which is like a small self loading scraper. It picks up all the clumps. He told me he gave over 1800 for it new but now would take 400. I can get pics of it in a few days. If you dont want it you can have the pics anyway. its offset so thats a pluss to you wouldnt have to try to straddle your windrow.
