I'm fairly new to tractors and I wish there was a better way to figure out which tool is best for the job. A bit about me, I think I've watched every video you've made and I'm a youtuber myself with 1.2 million subscribers and over 300m views. I think I can be a pretty good source of advice here.

Don't want to throw off Mike's subject but I'm intrigued with your youtube numbers... wondering if you are covering one subject or what approach you take. I've had what I consider reasonable success with close to 2k subscribers and 4 million + views. I cover a lot of tractor related videos but also a lot of other subjects that are not related to tractors (probably doesn't help re subscribers). Anyway would you mind giving us your youtube channel id. Thanks.

The quick version is that I'm an adult (42 right now) and I started playing video games again a few years ago. I was watching videos on how to get better but the people making vids were so amazingly good that it wasn't that helpful. As I got pretty good myself I became "WoodysGamertag, The Unexceptional Gamer". I gave advice on how to play Call of Duty better that worked for non-Gods.

Well, after a while I started talking about all kinds of things and became especially well known for life advice videos where I'd help younger people deal with "the friend zone", being scared before a surgery, toxic friends, etc. It blew up.

Now I don't go after youtube as hard as I once did. I still do a weekly podcast with a few friends. I did a paintball event where I met with fans about a week ago and today I'll probably upload a video from that. It beats real work by a mile.

tl;dr - It started with gaming, moved to life advice audio with gaming video, now it's mostly about me as a podcast and vlog channel.

Anyway, sorry for the hijack Mike. Best of luck with your channel.

I wish I was youtube savy before I posted a video that went viral.... ON FACEBOOK and didn't get a cent from its millions of views. Daughter could have her college paid off if I would've posted it on youtube and threw the link on facebook instead of the actual video. Live and learn.

Hi Mike, this is James down in Branson, I bought my tractor from the dealership when you were there, I have followed and enjoyed your videos for some time. I didn't realize who your were at first in the videos's but I noticed the company logo on some of the tractors, and realized who you were. I have met and spoke with you a few times. I have learned a lot here, even though I have owned 5 tractors over a 20+ year period.

Welcome to the site. A lot of great folks here.

Hey James, good to hear from a local guy. I miss all the folks at S & H, but doing what I'm doing now fulfills the creative side of me and I'm getting a real kick out of it. I look forward to learning some things here as well, there's always something new. I'll wave at you as we go by the next time we head to Table Rock.

Thanks for that reply - checked your channel and the stuff is WAY too heavy for me but I can see that you are a natural at what your are doing. Tractors would be a great relaxing diversion :)

I'm new to owning an operating and I've watched at all your videos. The hard part for me as a new owner/operator is maintenance and service. It took me a lot of reading and looking to figure out what my daily checks are before I start work every day. Understanding all the different types of transmission oil, gear oil, and engine oil is also a bit confusing. Understanding routine service requirements: daily checks, 50 hours, 250 hour, seasonal service would be of great help. Love your videos.

A bit about me, I think I've watched every video you've made and I'm a youtuber myself with 1.2 million subscribers and over 300m views. I think I can be a pretty good source of advice here. I'm always stuck on the implements.

For example, I just bought a land grader to maintain my driveway. The salesman tried to sell me a box blade. Some people online use a scraper blade. Others think a chain harrow or back dragging the front bucket is just fine. This sort of comparison would be so helpful to somebody new to tractors.

Another example, would be mowing. It seems that finish mowers, flail mowers, and bush hogs are the big three for cutting normal fields. I'd love to see examples of the grass they leave behind, the traveling speed for each one, and the capabilities of each one for rough terrain. (Specifically, flail mowers and bush hogs can both handle saplings. Where does the flail fall behind?) HP requirements are all over the place. Does 45HP stop at a 6' bush hog or a 12' bat wing finish mower?

To me, you've covered the tractors really well but there is a world of implements out there that leaves noobs like me baffled.

WOW, your YouTube experience is amazing! I hate to say it and you probably know this, but I'm still in the early phases of learning to navigate around Google and YouTube. I know tractors pretty well, I need an "askYouTubemike" to help me with the other stuff. My subscriber base is growing, I've annotated the videos to request that viewers become subscribers. The number is growing fairly rapidly, but it's such a niche market that I'll never get close to the numbers you have. My goal is to get sponsors for the videos, I guess since I've passed 1000 subscribers I'm eligible to do that, although I'm not exactly sure how that works. I'm devoting more time to this project as time goes on, and since I'm no longer working at a dealership I really need to generate some income out of it, but I figure that will happen when it happens. I'm promoting what I do everywhere I know to do so and do see the web traffic increasing. Any advice on how to accelerate that process would be GREATLY appreciated. It might be better to do e-mail correspondence, just so we don't clog up the tractorbynet thread. My e-mail is mike@asktractormike.com if you have ideas. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the ideas. Maybe I take a new tractor and go through the daily service out of the owner's manual and then go over where all the oils are in the tractor, then do one on the different interval services. I had planned to do one on winterizing a tractor here in the next couple of months. THANKS! That's exactly what I was looking for.
