Thanks! Mike48

I have a YM1700 and that's how you shut it down, by moving the throttle to it's lowest point. It's set to where it will shut down at that point. There's no other way to shut the engine down.

Unless there is something different, my YM2000 and other Yanmars I have been arround dont have an idle. Idle is set by where you put the stick. Recomended idle is 1000RPM from what I'm told. I would never run mine lower than that, honestly I try to keep mine at least 1200RPM for cool down idle.

Low idle speed should be 800. But you control that by where you set the throttle. You shouldn't try to run it below that, as it will stop, and not sure you won't hurt the engine, as its not suppose to run below 800.

My little 1110 has a detent on the throttle where the engine was supposed to idle. I found the engine would die before the throttle would reach the detent. There is a turn buckle on the throttle linkage and by adjusting the buckle, I was able to get the detent to be at the correct speed. Now pushing the throttle forward of the detent causes the engine to die.

Thanks Guys,
If I let go of the lever It will stop the engine, I will check the "T" rod and see If i can Idle It on up.

Thank! Mike48

You say if you let go of it, that it will stop the engine. Are you saying it goes by itself? That should not be, sounds like you need to tighten something up.

Hi,
Yes after the start when I let go of the lever It will idle down to about 500 rpm's and stall out, the lever Is not staying In one place, maybe something Is lose I will check for that.

Thanks! Mike48

Its been a while since I have looked at mine but there should be a friction nut or something there to keep the throttle handle from moving unless you want it to.

My YM1700 has a friction disk right where the lever joins. And there is a nut on the back you can tighten to make it tighter. Yours is probably the same. You should have to push it with some effort. As when you run, it should stay where you put it, to keep the same speed, to work with.

Hi Dick,
Well got the throttle working for a while but now when I go to stop the engine It will only go to idle down to around 300 rpm's half to put my foot under the floor peddle to make It shut off, Are there 2 springs that works the throttle? can only find one.

Thanks Mike48 /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

No there is only one spring. Sounds like you need to go down and loosen the two nuts on the rod, and shorten the stroke some. You know loosen the one closest to you, and tighten the one on the bottom. You should have it so it quits moving a little before the lever is all the way to the stop. I have a little less than 1/4 inch free play, so it is really shut off, before the lever is all the way forward.

I shut off my 1602D by pulling out the fuel shut off lever......

   / Idle to low #16
The only fuel shutoff lever is the throttle. You must be referring to the decompression lever.

If he is talking about the decompression lever, just think, he will soon be asking how to fix his motor. I don't know why, if someone gets a tractor, they don't ask, the one they buy it from, what does what, instead of just doing something and haveing no idea what they are doing. Because if its the wrong thing, it will cause problems somewhere down the road. Maybe he isn't talking about the decompression lever, so he may be ok. But a lot of others are doing these things.

Well, sorry to diasappoint you guys, but I do know where my decompression lever is, and I only use it for cold starting.....

Below the throttle lever on the right side of my 1602D is another rod , it's purpose is to shut off the fuel, the engine dies immediately when I pull it out.........

I'll see if I can find a pic that shows it

On my Ym2020 theere is a second leaver I pull to shut the engine off. When the throttle leaver is moved to the idle stop the engine will run at about 800 rpm. There is an adjustment or idle speed. On The 1500 idle is controled by Thottle position. There is a tension adjustment on the throuttle leaver to keep the govenor springs from moving the leaver during operation.
