IE 9 BOMB

Man, some of these old terms really shovel off some dust in my brain. In a couple weeks it will all be back there again which is a good thing. The old stuff is interesting to talk about but I wouldn't want to go back to it. Laserdisc, lol...talk about a big disk but it was a step to the future. I like my Ipod, USB, MicroSD cards and Roku2 boxes.

I had an odd experience today.
On a totally unrelated visit I got to talking with someone (in his 60s) and one thing led to another.
He mentioned something I had forgotten; Back in THE DAY computers had the best office suite in the company.
They were also among the first workers to get smoke free air conditioned offices.
The one he was talking about was a PDP11/70 that had a commanding view of Boston.
Barely a 1 MIP machine, when memory came in 8 K increments (-:

I have IE9 but it crashes daily. Didn't like Firefox when I tried it. I also use Chrome which doesn't crash and is generally faster than IE. I go back to IE9 only because I am so familiar with it but as I get used to Chrome I may just dump IE.

(Edit: just realized I posted this using Chrome so I must be getting used to it:thumbsup:)

Just remember....... "Chrome don't get ya home".............. it sucks too.

I always preferred Microlimp over Microsoft. :confused3:

Having been raised on unix and then been assimilated into MS like the Borg, I have to say this:

Microsoft will always be a second class operating system with world class marketing. Just because everyone uses it doesn't mean it is good. Heck, just look at Budweiser and Miller.

Just wait a few more years when almost everything is in the cloud. Homes will have Google embedded OS in their appliances and pesonal electrinics and that will be about it. There may be a fight between Apple and Google for control of personal electronics.

Businesses will have some flavor of the Google OS at their desktops (if there are any desktops) and will have very few servers on-site. The only strong OS will be in server farms owned by Google. It won't be Microsoft in the server farms. It will be either Googles OS or some flavor of unix.

Oz has spoken.

Just fine? If all you do is run MS Office on a PC you may be just fine. Most of the folks I know need to run some non-MS software on non-"standard" machines and I see the problems that result. Not to mention early Vista on laptops was nearly DOA. So glad you don't have problems supporting MS, hope you can say the same after 15-20 years. Just so you understand my complaint is not just sloppier code but that I have had no warning from MS when there are know or strongly suspect issues with patches/SP's.
MossRoad not sure how far the cloud will go in the business world, more people I know went client server because of lack of support in character mode rather than the desire to put MS on desktop.
The biggest single reason work went MS was my boss made the decision. So he asked my why I am reloading the HD after the SP4 broke it. I asked him "would you rather I do this for the design dept?" after explaining why the HD needed to be reloaded. The response was "oh I didn't think MS would be that sloppy". :confused2::ashamed: (his icons)

and vista 64 was brutal when it came to apps not speciffically designed for it.. hardware too. my palm pilot and some of my midi devices were not handled by vista 64.. though some of them did work on vista 32

Desktop units are alive and well. Some applications require them. I just had 2 built for controlling machinery in CNC application.
