If I won The Lottery I Would........

Well I have won the lottery...........well only a few dollars though. I have got the home I love, I am sending my kids to the college they choose, invested in income producing securitys, I give to the charities I choose,travel to the places I choose and have a wife I love AND I have a job I LOVE..........so I guess I have won the lottery by working and working and working. But its ALL worth it.

If anyone knows of a book that followed up on lottery winners' lives, I'd sure like to read it. ' Suspect that once we buy all the trinkets, we find out that we're still stuck with ourselves...

On a related note, there's a couple of accountants that claim to have interviewed a lot of rich people and noticed some recurring patterns. They called their book "The Millionaire Next Door". As I recall, several points were:

1) Most self made millionaires were small business persons.

2) The most common vehicle is an F150.

3) Most never spent over several hundred dollars for a watch.

4) ...but their heirs did.

5) Most family fortunes were squandered within 2 generations.

6) A sense of entitlement developed among family members.

If you win big, be careful how you "help" your kids.

Pay off bills and mortgage.
Setup a fund for EFRC so that they could do what they need to for the cats there, and the people that make it doable.
Setup a fund for retirement living
Setup a fund for now living so that bills would be paid from interest
Setup a fund for other charitable giving
Spend about 200 grand on a new home on 10 acres with a lake, out of the county I live in now.
Go to work on Monday, I love my career and I would want to still work.

In other words, with the exception of a couple hundred I would put it away till later.

SPCA what a wonderful organization to help out. We do volunteer work at Exotic Feline Rescue Center. While our cats are not "pets" they do come from some horendous situations. Check them out if you like big cats.

I have a neighbor that won 7 mil playing the Indiana lotto. He had a good life already. (wife, 2 kids, great job, hands on the family fortune, ect....) He quit his job almost immediately after winning. He spends his time rotating a barstool from facing the bartender to facing the TV.... His wife went off the deep end... She got his phobia that someone was going to kidnap the children, and hold them ransome fior their millions. She ended up being institutionalized for almost a year over that episode. Once she finally got out, they built their "compound" on their grandfathers farm (that they bought from grampa) That was almost 10 years ago. 3 weeks ago, he came to me looking for "something to do" (read employment) Their "fortune" is almost gone. He's 44. She's 42. They're starting over.

I'm quite happy with my life the way it is. I guess I'd buy a few things for the farm that I want, maybe take a trip to England, and make certain the grandkids are provided for well into their future. I'd also kick a few bucks to the Miami Foundation. (Spinal injury research) as that's always been my favorite charity. Other than that, I guess most of it would just "sit in the bank"....

Simple people have simple ways........................
