Comparison If you couldn't choose your brand tractor . . then who ??

   / If you couldn't choose your brand tractor . . then who ?? #21
Right now my lineup is all MF. If I was to take on a different brand the criteria I would need is that the brand/dealer could furnish all of the different sizes that I need. Secondly I want a dealer that is within no more than an hours drive, since I live in N. MN that reduces my options a bunch over others. I have within that hours drive the following brands: MF, Kubota, Yanmar, JD, NH and Mahindra. Based on my first criteria Yanmar and Mahindra are out since they can't furnish all of my sizes. So if I was to choose between the others I will list them in this order of preference: Kubota, NH and JD. I like JD, grew up on JD but in the larger class of AG tractor I just can't rationalize the extra $$ I would be shelling out. I don't know much about NH tractors but I have an NH disc mower and I have been treated well at the parts desk of the local dealer. I have looked into Kubota and owned an L3800 and was happy with it and the service. So as I speak I would give the nod to Kubota but if I was ever to move away from MF I would also have to seriously look at NH as well.

Speaking of MF, my new 1726E sits at the dealer today. I am planning on going over and picking it up tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

I currently run a John Deere and an LS, in the 27 to 33 hp range. Like both of them, but if I was to buy another unit, My first look will be Massey Ferguson. I really like the look and feel of them when I see them at the Ag Show. Local dealer has a good rep too. Second choice would be Kioti, tested them pretty thoroughly before I settled on the LS, and was very impressed, but the only dealer is almost 2 hrs away.
The JD dealer near here dropped the JD line ( or was dropped) and picked up LS and Deutz Fahr. Don't know how easy it would be to sell or trade a Deutz Farr, but I sure hear good things about them, I need to check them out just to see for myself, but they would have to be really good machines to leap frog the other two choices.

Talking budget wise, if Kioti wasn't around I'd have gone LS. Very good tractor. However my favorite was the Kubota Grand L. The Case B is impressive too.

John Deere would just barely beat NH for second.

That's a tough one as I don't' know if I could find anything similar to what I have. I'd probably look at some of the industrial Terex machines or Case. I don't think I could buy another CUT after having my Bobcat (Kioti/DaeDong). After using construction equipment for years I am just more comfortable with that style of equipment.

This was how this thread started . . . and its intention was to give new tractor buyers a different perspective of brand choice than is the normal method of "I really like my . . . ".

With more choices today than ever . . Every little bit helps.

But some of the responses seem to be going in a different direction than intended. In my opinion because a buyer runs into a single inadequate dealer . . thats no reason to avoid or give up on a particular brand interest. Yet thats exactly what some show in their posts.

I think we want new buyers to be determined in their search . . don't we. We don't want newbie's to feel we were weak when we looked . . We want them to understand that a single weak or lazy salesman or dealer doesn't make a brand less . . and that each brand deserves proper consideration at the least.

So I hope we can stick to the idea that if your current brand were "not available" and you needed to buy a new tractor . . . Which brand would you desire . . . and please indicate which size category you are in (scut, small cut, or large cut). Thanks.

P.S. in my search I encountered 1 to 3 poor salesmen IN EACH of 4 brands. Thats as many sales people as fingers on my hands. I certainly wasn't willing to back down on my search . . .and I'd like to think each of you existing tbn posters was at least as determined as I was to find what works for you and not what "was easy".

Oh my goodness.. relax. This is a forum! You asked people to respond based on their thoughts of what they would buy if the brand they are loyal to didn't exist. If you read my post, you'll see that I also stated that in my opinion JD was overpriced (a good reason to not consider the brand in my opinion). I'm sure they make a fine tractor, but I wouldn't consider one based off of two very important things IE; customer support per my dealer, and price. Sorry I added how I was treated.. I didn't know the rules were so strict in threads you start.

I looked at every brand sold within 75 miles of me when I shopped for my first tractor and none of them impressed me like the LS did. I bought the Kubota B26 used at a good price so dealer wasn't an issue although I would have bought a Kubota when I bought the LS if the dealer would have called me back after 2 calls and 2 visits without any action on their part. John Deere only had large farm tractor at the local dealer and I would have had to deal with Little Rock dealer for any smaller plus pricing is still a lot higher. I thought I wanted a MF but it just didn't fit my body right.
So having said all that, I really don't know what I would but if the need arises again. No Kioti dealers in my area at all and I cant say how well they would fit, but from all accounts and internet they are great tractors and I might buy one of those as an alternate to the 2 I have now.

Chim, I don't understand how this statement ties into something. It was separated and unrelated to the rest of your post and I didn't see how it tied into someone else's post either. ????

Yes, I threw that in as an afterthought. It struck me as humorous that someone in a previous post (with a location listed as Florida) would say "LS tractors start in cold weather". Sort of like seeing a gun review from a guy in Fairbanks Alaska leaning towards an AK47 because they work well in a sandstorm:)

I bought my Kubota used from Wisconsin. I'd guess it is colder up there than Florida. I have never heard of a tractor equipped with a block heater and glow plugs have trouble in cold weather. I don't think any brand of tractor without some source of heat will start in cold weather.
