Think about your uses with the current tractor.....Traction will not be near what you are familiar with the current tractor and a modern compact they need the 4wd.....Check tractorhouse for a 2wd kubota mx5100 or mx5000...

I would purchase new with 0% keeping the 15k in reserve.

Like some have said Kioti or LS. I got a Kioti CK2510HST w/FEL For just under 15k. Compare any of the brands machines to a similar powered Kioti and you will see the Kiotis weighs several hundred pounds more and can lift much much more with the Loader. I tried to deal on a Kubota B2620 at three dealers in my area. All were next to impossible to get to budge off msrp. and two of them bashed anything that was not a Deere or Kubota. I think Kubota makes a great tractor with a long standing reputation. That said there are some new players on the block that build a product just as nice and many times with more features that would be options on Kubota or Deere. Any dealer that brand bashes any manufacture has his head in the sand IMO. Buy the most tractor you can get for your money from a dealer you feel comfortable with.

I simply cant imagine going used with a 15,000 down payment in my pocket. If looking for something that I didn't have to turn a wrench on only NEW would do! Sick today so I stayed home and skipped the holiday festivities since I was also bored to death with out anyone else around I reviewed all the price quotes and spec sheets that I have from my many trips back and forth to all the different dealers when I was shopping this year and have came to the exact same conclusion as I did then a Kioti would be coming home with me.

Lets figure a 15,000 down payment with a decent tractor around 22,000 which puts him back into a similar powered machine but with added 4x4 and a loader. leaving 7,000 give or take to be borrowed, with a long term loan and agrecredit at around 5.5 % he would be in for about 120 to 130 a month. Not a bad way to get into a NEW machine and be able to put the wrenches down. Now with a new machine he could sell his existing machine and apply that to the borrowed amount. What is the current machine worth?

NOTE: The amount used to figure the loan terms was based on 7500 dollars and was not properly figured but rather a close approximation based on the law of averages hence why no specific figures were given just a range.

That's the only thing I worry about with the smaller 4WD. The Long weighs around 4400 pounds and the Nebraska tests rated it to tow almost 2.5 tons at the drawbar. They were strong tractors with not-so-good hydraulics (believe it or not, they still make a similar model in Pakistan, so a lot of the basic design is ok).

I'm to the point in life where I don't finance anything...I might budge up a bit from 15K, but I ain't gonna budge far.

But I am enjoying the discussion. It's nice to hear the different views and to hear some of the pricing info...Gives me a lot to think about...

How much of a budge? This post is from someone who was willing to go 20,000. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...son-kioti-ds4510hs-vs.html?highlight=kioti+DS

I know the 4510H is a bit lighter than the long but with similar rated PTO HP and 4 wheel drive it should do fine for your usage. Remember to a certain degree 4x4 will close the weight gap for many tasks and if adding the weight of a loader its even closer yet. DS4510HS Utility Tractor | Kioti Tractors

Consider also the sale of your current machine to balance out the price. If you can find a good deal on one like the mentioned post you would be in the ball park price wise

The dry weight on the Kioti DK 40/45, HST, non cab, 4wd With Rops and no loader is 3925lbs, the loader weighs about 1200 lbs...load the rear tires + another 1100lbs ..= 6225lbs
IMO this was the sweet spot in Kiotis lineup for bang for the buck, they are very stron,g and have a very strong loader with standard quuick attach, they are a very nice tractor for the money... they are tier 3..no exhaust treatment, no computer, no egr, they are mechanically injected and governed...you have a throttle cable and a muffler, unfortunately they are discontinued for 2014.

All 2014 tractors are now tier 4 emissions with all the electronic hocus pocus, computer, dpf, EGR, some take urea etc......not sure if you would be interested in supporting all that but I wasn't;)

There are very few new DK series tractors left out there, If you have any inkling on a new tractor, I would encourage you to take a look at these, if you find one and like it, don't snooze on it,
once they are all gone that is it.

Good luck

If I had 15grand in my pocket I would buy a new Honda pioneer 500, but if I bought a new tractor it would be four wheel drive and have a loader. It would be a TYM tractor because I am very pleased with mine and a good dealer close.

Paulfun I know your $ conscious guy, I remember when you bought your DK40 you got a heck of a deal on it.
I think you will agree that the DK is a MUCH nicer tractor....

I don't like the loader controls on the DS, they look like a afterthought scabbed on to the side of the machine, and I don't like where they are located.
For me everything is where it should be on the DK, The DKs hydrostat is very nice especially if your not a young guy anymore, as far as loader work I would say its almost as fast as a skidsteer with a much better ride:thumbsup:

Yes I agree the DK is a much better layout overall and for my uses which include lots of loader work I would choose the DK again.

For this opinion of what would I do? I put myself in his shoes using his description along with my money spending habits . Now remember I paid cash for my DK40 with loader and backhoe, then at the same time order a new snow blower and purchased a new finish mower and then a land plane within a couple months. Believe me when I tell you if I only had 15,000 in cash on hand at the time of purchase I would have been forced to look at things slightly differently and if the loader was not going to be used as much as it is the DS4110H or DS4510H would have probably came home with me.

I would think if he goes to the dealership and looks at what is available and they have a DK that he likes and he feels like making the stretch for it then he will be all that much better off but staying as close to 15k as possible I would have to recommend the DS for now but if you notice my price figures did get him to my cost of the DK so he could at least see how far of a stretch it is.

My knees are shot but the use of a clutch for some reason is still not a limiting factor and if the DK had a power shuttle option I would probably have went with that rather than the HST. the wife might not like it too much but I still put about 100 hours on any given machine to her 5.

By all means I think he should definitely consider the DK but using his guidelines I think he will end up going with something like the DS and the loader will sit in the barn for a year or two before he realizes its true value and he wont care about the cumbersome control of the loader for a long time. The loader control on my International is almost exactly like it and with the ability the machine has it really didn't bother me for a long long time and many thousands of hours of use. Only now when the machine is old and worn and in need of replacement is its placement even a concern and the power shuttle is second nature to me and still wont be a concern as long as its replacement dosnt put me into a cramped position which I find to be the worst thing for my knees.

All we can do here is give our advice based on our own experience which I have done.
