If you have a BX tractor (mine is a BX24) and have hitched a KingKutter "XB" tiller, I would like to talk about the PTO shaft.

I have a BX 1860 with the XB Tiller. I cut 6 inches off of the male shaft end, I had a friend who had a diagram from google RE; PTO Shaft Length,( how to). Mine works just fine. I have the turf tires if that helps you in determining if tractors ae similar height.

Are you saying you only cut 6" off of one end and nothing off the other? Hope not since you're suppose to cut an equal amount off each end to maintain sufficient overlap of the two halves.

Before you start cutting, please go to the "Everything Attachment" web site and review the video he has posted on how to measure and cut a PTO shaft. Serious damage can occur. Also serious injury can occur.

Absolutely view the video! Be aware that the PTO shaft that he measures IS NOT the same one that he actually cuts and the numbers are different. Use Ted's (Everything Attachments video) method of measuring, make sure you understand the math, then cut away. You will be fine. I used this video for my first cut and was a bit confused by the two different PTO shafts at first. Once I realized that the first part of the demo was strictly on how to measure, and that the actual cutting demo of the PTO shaft in the video had no relationship to the measurements of the first shaft, everything made sense.

Reviving an old post on this subject. I searched for info for a BX2370 in cutting the tiller PTO drive and came up with a lot of ambiguity. Being a novice I took a stab at what I thought was the right way to measure and ended up being 1 1/2" too-long. I went back and looked at some more video and researched and then wondered how much more I should cut off because being too long is just as bad if not worse being too short. After looking at again, I measured the working part of the shaft, inside the cuff and found 9 1/2" inches of working space. I finally came down to measuring out 8" and cut there and it came out perfect. I have the recommended 6" overlap at the working level, leaving me with plenty of slide when the tiller is in the up position. I wish I found this information sooner, but glad to pass it along to another novice to the trade. The tiller I use is the 48" from Agri-Supply, #77709. I can't say it's the same for the KingKutter "XB".
