IF you own a freezer......

Okay, that is the same model I now have two of. Finicky little buggers but mine are both working great now.

I did add two independent monitors on the freezers with battery units on the outside and corded temp probes that I slipped past the door gasket (very small cable) for double safety. It is one thing to lose a fridge, but a freezer can get expensive. The different units are fairly close reading wise.

I just use the last, as it has served me well for 30 years. I get into the habit of glancing at it regularly. The house freezer doesn't concern me anyways, I hear when it kicks on so know that it's running. When they don't start up or never stop is when you have problems...

One thing the Acurite tells me that I would never have known is the cut-off to cut-in range. I was surprised to see a 20 degree total swing on one and a 15 degree in the other. Better for life of the freezer I guess. Second picture is one of the wired units I installed. I set both to 0 degrees on center.

I will be finished running my 7 day straight with an empty freezer having found a place to tuck it out of the way. I will pick up 15 gallons of distilled water (which I use with coolant) and after freezing and stabilizing the temp for a few days rerun the 7 day test and see if it does use fewer Kwh's.

Freezer is now running with 15 gallons of water jugs frozen and stabilized for four-five days.

Well, y'all convinced me to buy the Accurite temperature monitor. It arrived a couple of days ago and was easy to set up. It's the first time I've seen the cut-in and cut-out temps. The upright has a swing of about 10* and the chest freezer is only 3*.

Congratulations. On the upright is that a Plus 10, minus 10 for 20 total or plus 5, minus 5 for a total of 10?

My freezer monitor is a Taylor brand. Doesn’t take batteries or plug in. Ive got use to glancing at it every time I go by.
Noticed that the temp varies about 12 degrees.

That's hard to say. I have the upright set for -10*, but the Accuride says the coldest is -5*. The temp difference between max and min was 10 degrees when I made the post. It's now at 15* between max & min and BTW it is also a frost free freezer so I expect a big temp swing eventually. It's only been in place for a few days, I figured that after a day or two I'd have an accurate profile on the temperature swings, guess not. Now I'm thinking about a data logger for the temps.

^^^ 15 and 20 degF is what I am seeing (total) on my frost free uprights, so that makes sense. I am sure the contents do not swing in temperature nearly as much as the air.

Probably correct. One more reason to keep those freezers as full as possible.
