Richard:

I'd have to agree with Woodbeef on this one. The guy is looking at a Manhindra. You and I and Woodbeef all know that a Deere is technologically more advanced than a Manhindra, but also quit a bit more expensive. I had the chance to examine a Manhindra at a R&D facility here in Michigan, where the tractor was stripped of it's sheet metal as the company was preparing to do r&d on a particular part.

I looked over the mechanical aspects of the tractor in close detail and in MY opinion, the tractor is somewhat crude. That's not to say that it's not reliable, it's just not assembled with the finesse that a John Deere or my beloved Kubota is.

I don't think you could compare a JD to a Manhindra, model for model. The Deere will always come out on top design wise, but NEVER price wise.

We don't all have steel hinges on our wallets so for some of us, there are other makes other than JD.

Woodbeef, on the other hand, always seems to take offense at your post's as they always favor JD, your favorite machines.

I seem to think that Canadian farmers like JD's too. I see quite a few loads of used green tractors and implements going to Canada via the Ambassador bridge!!!

Besides, Woodbeef, I always have to correct my friends in Cocharane, Ontario that I ride an Arctic Cat, not a Skidoo!!!

Hey Doc,

The 6420 with the ZF ECCOMII box that we get shipped over here,is nowheres near the same as the Premium Plus one that is available across the pond. In Europe the interior is much nicer, and has things available like a glass moonroof. Even the cheap 6020 SE series over there has more options than the ones they ship to us as the 6015series.

Take a wander over to the UK Deere site and have a gander at the 5020s built in Mannheim with the frame. Once you see it,you'll be asking your buddies at Deere why we do not get it here!!!!

I never did like color wars. Almost forgot & entered into the fray! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would not be buying a new tractor. I would be buying a good, beefy, used tractor. You will get a LOT more bang for your buck. Good machines are out there, and are built a lot better than what you are looking at. I won't specify a color, but you can get a good 80-140 hp tractor for $12-20,000, and frankly give you more service life than the new tin can that is slightly underpowered for your jobs. It is the weak link in your bundle.

If you are looking at this as a full time job, the new baler & new cutter is a good idea - you do get value with new paint on those items.

I'm kinda partial to the yellow balers, but the newer NH & Case balers are very popular & dependable here as well - Yellow doesn't have a dealer very close.

I have no clue on the mower. Everyone runs some alfalfa here, & with our climate we need a conditioner unit, period. Most go for the tried & true sickle & roller conditioner, NH is the top seller around here. Never heard of the brand you are looking at.

So as not to leave JD out, they are extremely popular for tractors & planters around here. Kinda a no-show for hay equipment tho, they are always playing catch-up on those lines.

Rambler,
If it's cheap row crop HP you need, I totally agree with you concerning the used tractors. It is just easier to round bale with power shift transmissions, cab tractors, new responsive hydraulics and the ergonomics of the later model tractors. Many of those late 70's tractors you speak of have hydraulic problems and make baler operations more difficult. Speaking about John Deere hay tools, JD was one of the last MFG to introduce an open-thought round baler. They were 10+ years behind Vermeer, NH, Hesston, Gehl, NI and others. JD's current baler design came from Hesston. Most JD old hay tools were designed to work best in Iowa & IL. The problem there the whole world in not Iowa & IL. JD hay tools have come a long way from barely functional to some of the best in the industry now. This increase in technology has not come cheap. Deere has purchased almost all of the hay tools technology from other MFG's. Deere hay tools cost more because of their system of playing catch-up, not because they are any better than other MFG's products.

About those 5000 TWENTY series over there in the UK they start at higher hp than the ones here. 75 or someting like that. The ones here are much lower 55 I believe. The reason the UK models have a nice heavy duty frame is because they are really a 6000 series tractor rebadged. Look at them they look like the 6000 series. I am wondering why you think the interior is nicer than the ones here? I don't see that big of a change. Since Deere just came out with a couple new 7000 series tractors I just saw one a work and they look very nice compared to the ones they replace. I was very skeptical at first of the new styling but now it's better and so is the inside. Back to haying I think John Deere makes the best hay equipment then followed by Gehl. Gehl makes the best skid steers for sure. After driving JD and Gehl, Gehl wins out by far.

Hey Yellowsocks,

No, the Mannheim built 5020s are not just rebadged 6020s.
Take another good look at the framed 5020s from Mannheim. They are a cross between the 5010s and 6020s. Remember too that in Europe the advertised hp is not pto like over here,so it is higher. The 5620 would come in about the same as a 5420 over here.

Did you actually see a 6020 series Premium Plus interior? what about the available options for Europe?

The new large 7020s are different,we are not talking about them. Yes,I do agree with you that they are some nice tractors. Much better looking than the 8020s!!
