Many years ago, while I still 'worked' for a living, a coworker from another department and I were doing a job discussion, when he interrupted and asked if I was a veteran. When I replied "yes, I am", he immediately leaned forward, shook my hand, looked me square in the eye and said "Thank you". That was the first time anybody said that to me. Took my breath away and never forgot that gesture.
