Exactly!! My wife actually lost money on the last "increase" because her medicare went up more than the SS. They still haven't announced the medicare for this year but it will probably eat up the entire SS.

Social Security benefits were always intended to supplement retirement income not to be to soul source. Lack of personal responsibility and poor planning make for a dismal retirement. Of course there are always exceptions, i.e., catastrophic accidents, illness, etc. which can't be anticipated.
