ignition problem

on my 68 ford 4500 some times when I turn on the ignition it doesn't turn over go back and forth with the key a couple of times and she fires up. all of a sudden now it wont turn over at all,so i leave the ignition on and jump the solenoid she fires right up. next time I try to start her I jump her like before the bendix comes out but just spins plenty fast not engaging with the flywheel is the problem with my ignition or starter soleniod or starter?

If all the connections are good and tight and clean, my guess would be a new complete starter.

Make sure the battery terminal connections are 'bright and tight". and that your ground connection to the chasis is good. Next check the circuit from the key switch to the solenoid, including any safety interlocks. Don't start swapping components but rather systematically look for a loose connection, bad ground. If you can jump directly to the starter and get it started, the solenoid and the starter are good.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be a loose crimp connection in the wiring from the switch. There was also a rats nest of of wires that did nothing. I have no idea what the original intent was. I cut that out and fixed the connections. All is well now.
