For the several weeks, getting the switch to stay in "run" position has been getting more and more difficult on my TC-35. Preheated the glow plugs OK and started fine but wouldn't stay in run position after starting. Clearly was something amiss in the switch. Assuming it is like nearly all ignition switches I have ever run into - a sealed unit - I called my local dealer to make sure he had one in stock.

Figured I may as well remove the old one before going to the shop and - lo and behold - the switch is actually designed to be "split" open and the guts are servicable!

I cleaned two tiny pieces of plastic out of the guts that appeared to be impacting one of the contacts' ability to make a good connection. Put in a bit of anti-ox compound, snapped switch back together and re-installed, still assuming I would be off to purchase a new $40 one.

Voila! Preheats, starts and stays in position just like new!

NH made the process so easy, it almost is un-American. Two bolts remove the dash assembly, unscrew the switch retainer nut, reach in and remove the switch, disconnect wire harness!!! Nearly took longer to walk to and from my shop than it did to remove the switch, take it apart, repair it and reinstall it!!

Gotta love good engineering when it works for you.

I was able to remove, disassemble, remove the piece of tumbler, and reinstall the switch on a TS100 for a customer to get him going. I was sort of amazed it was possible. The unit was still under warrenty so I still put a new one in a couple days later.

Uhhh... I think it IS un-American made. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Nice job! You could have just tossed it and spent the extra $40, but now you have some money for fireworks on the 4th. Yea! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
