IH 444 Clutch Stuck

   / IH 444 Clutch Stuck #11
I have the same problem as the OP!
Clutch is stuck engaged, on my Ford 1920.
Worked normally in morning, but not that same afternoon.
New clutch has less than 10 hours.
Tractor is always stored inside.
Clutch pedal pushes to the bottom, with no resistance.

You should feel some resistance at about 3/4", to 1" from pedal rest position. If you're not feeling that resistance, and only 10 hrs. on a new clutch, I'd venture to guess there is a problem with the linkage somewhere. Possibly a pin dropped out, or a keeper of some sort has let part of the linkage, become disengaged.

Who fitted the clutch 10 hrs ago? This sounds like their responsibility really...

However, DJ is covering the general bases here. Look at the clutch pedal and see if, when pushed down, does the shaft it's attached to 'turn' - or does the pedal slip around the shaft?

No resistance, so something's not connected as the clutch springs are quite strong.

:confused:I have a clutch that is stuck to flywheel can I get some help of how to disengauge this. 444ih tractor.it dosent set around that long.one day it worked next day it didn't.

Can you describe the failure better?

When you press the clutch pedal does it go down all the way?

Why move it to JD? A 444 is an IH tractor... lol

Block the clutch pedal down... Hook your tractor to something that pulls hard, like a disc, or something else that moves but pulls hard.

Pull until it breaks free, it may take a while...

OR, split the tractor...

OR pull an inspection cover and squirt kerosene on the clutch plate and pull something with the tractor as above...

yes clutch goes to floor will not shift in or out of gear while running pressure plate stays forward I can see it from bottom with plate off

Does it have a single clutch plate, or dual..?? If you're not sure, does your PTO engage before the tractor starts moving, or engage at the same time..?? It could be an adjustment problem. Should be approx. 3/4" of free travel off the pedal rest position, before you feel some resistance of the clutch release bearing engaging the fingers on the pressure plate. Your Operators, or service manual should give the specs. on pedal travel, with either type clutch.

I'm sort-of wondering now... If you have removed the cover plate (Great!) and you can see the clutch (and you can see the pressure plate?) and you have 'Soldier B' press the pedal...and you don't see the friction plate move or you don't see the pressure plate move?? Edit: I just re-read and the pressure plate doesn't move rearwards when you press the pedal?

And do you get any significant resistance as DJ asks? You should get 'significant' resistance. This is the first thing we need to know.

That the clutch 'failed to operate' overnight is most unusual imo. Not really long enough for the friction plate to rust onto the flywheel (As SR is describing I think) so I tend to lean towards a broken/slipping mechanical linkage as with 'Fried1765'.

You are right that I was thinking of it rusting and you are also right it should not happen in a few days... I did miss the part that it happened that fast...
