Forum members, I am pleased to announce that my equalizer valve has been rebuilt and is ready for the install next weekend. Also, today I successfully painted the hood, and various panels I've removed from my tractor. Only one coat of paint thus far but even though that's my first time painting a vehicle I am extremely happy with the results. I'll give it a couple of days to dry and then I'll paint the second coat for a smoother look yet. Pics to follow as my time allows.

The second coat has been applied and so far no runs and no issues have been experienced! I've grown very fond of this IH red

I must admit that today was one long, hard day but my tractor and its front end loader have been both painted. Not a perfect job but it looks 150% better and it'll protect the metal for years to come! I'll provide pics next weekend and you can tell me what you think ;).

I also installed the rebuilt equalizer valve, all it took was replacing 4 orings, and I'm happy to report that there's no hydraulic leaks whatsoever on my tractor!!

Here's the results of the best $50 I ever spent for the gallon of paint and peripheras  Now I've got to assemble the piece parts and buy/install the decals and we'll be good to go.

GCP, I'm having the same problem with the equalizer and need to know where and what size of O-rings and cost did you get them? We live in Florida and the nearest dealer is 150 miles and only have a kit for $51.00 plus shipping. Can you help on the O-ring and also any other help you can give. Your paint job looks great! I have an 1984 584 IH and have had it since new brought it down with me from Il. Thanks again for any help.

jblund, sorry for the delay!

I bought the orings from an auto store, and don't know the size right off, I removed the equalizer, disassembled, and took the old orings in for the right size selection. BTW, they are both the same size. Make sure the orings are the hydraulic type though.

Give me until the weekend to go to the farm and measure the old ones. I'll also scan the manual's description and JPEG it to you. The hardest part of the job is getting to the valve. Loosen the hydraulic lines and move out of the way, there are only two bolts that hold the body into place.

Moderators, I see no copyright in the front so I don't know if posting the following two manual scans breaks any rules but if it does please delete and I'll send directly to John. If not, I thought that could be of future assistance to our members.

John, two bolts hold the equalizer’s body onto the tractor so remove them and lift the valve off the tractor. Disassemble as indicated in the write-up, remove the 2 old o-rings and take them to an auto store for proper sizing. Remember to ask for hydraulic type o-rings, they are made of different material, are stiffer, and will not break down as easily from the H fluid. It's an easy repair so don't worry about tackling it.

Good luck to you!

Needed wiring/fuse repairs have been completed so all lights/guages are now fully functional. Lastly, big red is all dressed up & buttoned down for some serious work. I hope he proves long term reliable!
