Just bought a 1955 IH 350 utility and want to replace the gauges and steering wheel. Does anyone know if the wheel is pressed on or threaded

Should be a nut on the top which needs to come off. There are no threads on the steering wheel itself. I believe there is a keyway to hold it in its position. Get a can of Kroil or PB Blaster and a good steering wheel puller/gear puller. I wouldn't try and do it all at once. Put the PB Blaster on let it soak. do it again the next day. Put the puller on and tighten it up. If it doesn't want to come off, shoot somemore PB and torque the gear puller down (not enough to break anything). Come back the next day and repeat until the steering wheel is free. I promise this will work, but it may take a week to do. BobG in VA

I agree that, I had to remove the steering wheel on my IH B414, it took about a week to finally get the wheel broke loose. On the B414 all that holds the wheel on is a nut, there is a key-way on the steering column. When you put it back together, be generous with the anti-seizing grease. Steve

If the PB dont work(it should) try just a drop or two of brake fluid, do not get any on paint it will eat paint

When you remove the cover, you will see a nut that has to come off. The steering wheel on the IH350U is a splined fit. If memory serves me right, there are two different size splines and you will have to know that when getting a new steering wheel. Your IH dealer should be able to tell by the serial number. I was surprised just how many parts are still available for this model. However, when I had to replace my SW, the original style was not available with the size spline that was on my 1957. So I had no option but to buy a modern looking looking steering wheel. Bummer! Oh well.

Good luck finding a new tach if you need one. If you do, they are quite pricey. Mine never worked.

Great little tractor though and with that classic Farmall/IH round styled look.

Check www.ytmag.com for more help. Drop me an email or message me if you have any specific questions.

Two more things...
1. I ended up cutting my old steering wheel off. The spline was so badly rusted that even with lots of PB Buster, heat and a BIG gear puller it just would not budge. I lost my patience and I carefully ground a slot in the hub to relieve that pressure.
2. Check out the post "Where to find parts" to see more IH/Farmall sites.
