Wow! I wish you were close to me. I had them save some random pieces. It's really nice looking wood. Most all the rest went to a landfill. I inherited a lathe and planer but my woodworking knowledge is about nil.
Not everyone has woodworking skills...Why I mentioned an artisan...there are some really good craftsmen out there that don't charge an arm and a leg...
I like making beads on a lather...really hard wood can be polished like glass...

Trying to find a pic, but so far I can't. My Cousin made a wooden chip and salsa bowl combination out of one piece of wood. Very cool.

All I can do is ask dumb questions. They left some wood so I can make things out of it. They finished and it started raining, wood is getting wet. What should I do, put it under roof? How long before I can use it (season it's called?). How do I dry it...will it split?
I'm 70...made lots of things of wood my wife loves...but I now realize on a scale of 10 I'm maybe a 1.2.
Years ago I worked next door to a cabinet maker who had an amazing amount of equipment. All I could do was watch him work with my mouth hanging open.

The more the interior is open the faster it will dry...
If there is no chance of insects once the moisture content is 18% or less it should be fine...if there is a possibility of insects (you might not be able to see) internal temperature needs to reach 140* F...
Milling it with the grain will be less likely to twist or crack...

The key to drying is keeping it dry, warm (sunlight is good) and lots of air movement...turn it over every few days for even drying...

Here's the final cut, my phone ran out of storage at the end. Guy cutting is my age (70).

A 43 year old oak is 60" in diameter? 😲 What did you fertilize it with? Or did my pre-coffer brain not get 2 when adding 1+1?

+1, around here a 60" oak tree would be 300+ years old. I cut down a 40" hickory last year and stopped counting rings at 200, I easily had another 50 to go.

I guess it depends on where the measurement is taken?

I measure at the point where the log base starts, i.e., approximately where this tree was cut above the stump.

Some people measure at ground level.
