Illinois Earthquake

woke up at 4:35 in a shakeing bed and was freeking out. Tought there was a tornado outside.

The ground beneath you just isnt suppose to move.

Felt the second one at 10:15 also.

Im about 40 miles outside of st louis in IL.

You guys are really in an earthquake area. The 1812 quake, centered in SE Missouri was felt in Boston and Washington D.C. Check "New Madrid Earthquake" on Wikipedia.

Years ago when I was in the Air Force, stationed in California north of Santa Barbara, we had some New Yorkers move into the other half of a duplex we lived in. Invited them over to get acquainted. They asked about earthquakes and having grown up in California, we filled them in a little. 5 minutes after they left we had a small quake that lasted maybe 30 seconds, probably a 4 or so. They sure were excited!

I was on the ham radio about 5 min after it was over this morning (4:35) and by 4:45 i had info (from the radio) that it was a 4.5 mag out of salem IL.

I love being a ham!

I have several cousins with a Mt. Carmel, IL. address.
I called one of them tonight and he said the damage was very minor there and that he and all of his brothers and sisters were OK.

Pretty good rattle here in Bloomington, IN.

I said to my wife, "I havn't seen the bed rock like that in a long time!"
Wife said "'but it was about as long, 10 sec"

Jokes a side, it was nice to experince it. Last one I felt was '87

I was in Louisville Ky and felt nothing, must have been sleeping well. My wife was at home and said it rattled our house pretty good. We are about 80 miles nw of Olney Il. I was driving down the road just north of Louisville on I65 when the after shock hit I stopped for gas and everyone in there was talking about it so I missed that one too. Wife called from her cell phone as I was leaving gas station and said It had knocked out there phones at work.

I'm 28 miles straight west of downtown Chicago. Woke by the rattling of spare conduit and copper pipes stored in the rafters in the basement workshop, and by banging/ rattling of the 80-year old basement windows (they are at ground level) in this old house. Was still groggy and figured it was the cat(s) going after something or other down there. It was 4:37am.

Put it together when I read news of the quake later. Cool!

My home is only 35 miles from the epicenter but I didn't feel it. I was in San Francisco.

Unfortunately my kids called and were rather rattled. That made for a long night of not being able to sleep. I did get home in time to feel a 4.0 that was also centered 35 miles from my house. It didn't feel too bad but it definitely woke me. According to our local news, that was the 23rd earthquake here in the last week!!
