We picked up the Engine, Hydraulic and Hydrostat filters and a gallon of SUDT
and it came to $140 some. The one filter was over $70. I'll be putting CaseIH
No. Diesel oil 15W-40 in the engine. We buy it in large quantities and I'm not
going start stocking another engine oil, the Hydro fluid is bad enough but until the
warranty is out I'll stick Kubota's Hydro, even though I realize I don't really
have too. Hopefully next time I'll be able crossover that one filter to something
else, maybe all of them. BIL is a big stickler for maintenance, he's a maintenance
planner for a large manufacturing corp. and uses all Purolator filters on his 'Bota.

And we all know how well that business model worked for the auto industry:eek:

I believe the "planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence" has been changed by companies such as Toyota/Honda and others that emphasize longevity. American car companies have had to dramatically improve quality/durability to become competitive again and now make as good of vehicles as anyone. I Keep a truck or car a minimum of ten years and had to stop buying American long ago.

I agree - The only people recommending changing your car's oil every 3K now are the quick lubes. Our Honda has a "oil % of life left" reminder on the dash and it says the oil is good for about 9K. The liability if those reminder gauges are wrong would be MASSIVE! It took some getting use to but I go by the gauge now. I have to say that at first I changed it way early but even the Honda salesman said to trust the gauge. I just can't believe Honda would put those gauges in for planned obscelence - The liability would be too massive (hundreds of thousands - or milllions - of cars with early engine death - they must know what they are talking about!) Besides when was the last car you had to junk because of the engine - Oddly enough, the seat usually wears out before the engine.

Agreed..My GMC P/U and Hummer have computerized fluid change warnings, and they hit where I think they should. The wife drives the hummer around locally as a grocery getter and it goes off at around 4500 miles...I hammer my pickup on the interstate (80+MPH) going to work and it goes off around 5500 miles. So far so good on both. The pickup is approaching 100k and uses no oil at all and have had no failures of any kind.

BTW..as a recovering car dealer employee, full discolsure: 20 years ago, but nothing has changed...Never listen to car salesman about ANYTHING.

For me the choice was pretty easy. The ONLY thing that changing everything impacts in a negative light is the wallet. You're not going to damage the tractor because you changed fluid too often. It is only a hit to the wallet.

To some this may be an issue, but what after I just spent on my machine.... I'll go ahead and spend a few bucks and change everything out at 50 hours.

I know things evolve. Tractors get better. Fluid get better. But it only makes sense to me to change all the fluids after a short run-in (50 hours) with all of those different parts mating and operating together for the first time. Especially when you have a situation where gears, clutches, brakes and hydraulics are all sharing the same fluid.
