So I finally did it. I bleed orange now. Bought a B7510HSD with a great bend loader and 60" sovema finish mower. I wanted to thank all of you for all the info that is on this site. I can not count the countless hrs I have spent here figuring out which model to go with. *thanks for convincing me that I needed a FEL!!!*

I have a few questions if someone has the time for a newbie.

1. Does anyone know where I can find/buy an operators/service manual? The gentleman I bought the tractor from had all his papers/books in a box on his trailor that got stolen...

2. What is the small pedal on the left hand back side oppisite of the reverse pedal? Diff lock?

3. How long should I hold the key for the glow plugs to heat up? I have tried 10 secs but when I start it up, blue grey smoke comes out and it sounds like its knocking. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Ill post some pics as soon as I can. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

1. There is an owners, or operators, manual, a workshop manual, and an illustrated parts list. They aren't cheap, but to me worth what they cost and you should be able to order them through any dealer.

2. Yep, that's the differential lock.

3. Depends on how cold it is outside; 10 seconds to 30 seconds should usually do it. A puff of smoke at startup is normal and a cold diesel engine does sound like it's knocking, but as to whether those two things are unusual or excessive in your case, I couldn't say.

The colder it is the longer you need to hold the glow plug position. If it starts you held it long enough. The glow plugs have nothing to do with the normal startup black smoke or the normal five second knocking from cold startup.

Congrats. that's a nice little machine. Having owned the same tractor for years, i can tell you it's very light & that loader can roll you over in a new york minute. If you plan to do a lot of loader work you should fill the rear tires! JMHO, enjoy,Scott.

According to the Operator's Manual for my B7510 you should hold the switch in the preheat position for:

Over 32 deg. F 2 to 3 seconds
23 to 32 deg. F 5 seconds
5 to 23 deg. F 10 seconds

That is the first time I have actually looked it up because the technician that gave me the orientation when I bought it said 5 seconds. I have been doing the 5 seconds and it seems to work good. I think I tried it at 2 or 3 seconds one time and it was a little slower to start than usual so I would say 5 seconds is a good time.

The black smoke when it starts is normal since the engine is not hot so does not burn the fuel completely.

BTW, the book says to set the throttle at 1/2 way but I usually don't kick it up that high. As for warmup the book says:

Warm up the engine at about 50% of rated RPM according to the table below:

Above 32 deg. F At least 5 minutes
14 to 32 deg. F 5 to 10 minutes
-4 to 14 deg. F 10 to 15 minutes
Below -4 deg. F More than 15 minutes

I run straight 30 weight diesel oil in mine but I live in East Texas where we hardly ever get freezing weather. If you live in a colder climate you might want to run some other weight oil.

Hope that helps.
