You are sitting on the edge of needing something in the 50hp range, IMHO.

Unless you are wanting to simply maintain a wildlife sanctuary, I predict your need will develop for a tractor capable of working harder/faster/stronger than a 35ish HP .

Actually, this pretty acurately describes what most of the land will be. I just hope the wildlife likes dirt bikes too.

Thanks

I have to agree with texasjohn. For that land size I'd be looking at the 4110 or the 00 series. Once you get to the 00 series the price difference isn't much and that is why I ended up with the 65004wd.

You can run a larger mower and get work done faster. You may eventually expand your pasture area and also decide to produce your own hay. For anything like that you will need 50 or more hp.

I would consider Mahindra over Branson. The dealer in Anamosa is doing those on the side amidst many of his other projects and I doubt he has the same support Franzen's do. They have been working with tractors for many many years. They are an established and reputable family business, and one major thing that sold me on Mahindra's is that they decided to carry them. These are people with years of IH and other brand tractor experience. They know how all different brands are put together, and them chosing to be a Mahindra dealer says a lot to me.

Before I bought my first tractor 3 weeks ago I talked to alot of neighbors who run a few horses or cattle and mostly manage their land for recreation and wildlife and almost everyone wished they had more hp. I looked around and bought a Mahindra 7520 and a Quick Attach grapple for the FEL and a 7 ft brush hog. I am so glad I did. The extra hp, hyddraulic flow and tractor weight allow me to move an believable sized trees and brush piles not only quickly but more importantly safely and I cut my trails in one pass instead of two. This saves so much time since I am not having to cut the brush and trees up into bite sized pieces and small trees and cedar can be popped right out of the ground. Also I wouldn't worry too much about being able to get into your stalls with the front end loader. They should be cleaned daily so just pull up to the gate and throw the few forkfulls into the bucket and away you go to the manure pile. Bottom line buy all the weight and horse power that you can afford. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks. Right now I am leaning towards another brand. But it is a heavier tractor, but still 35hp. I'm also shying away from the hydrostat. I drove the other one today, a gear tractor with shuttle shift. Didn't seem like a big deal to me. I have driven exclusively manual trans cars for the last twenty years. I can save some money on the hydro and probably less maintenance in the long run.

Check out the Mahindra 3510 and 4110, flat deck, 12x12 shuttle transmission, just under 4000 pounds for the tractor alone, and 1972 pound lift capacity on the quick attach loader.
