I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

TSC has a 48inch King Kutter mower for 599.00 It's faded in color. Are they any good? Is that a good price?
Thanks!

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

That's pretty steep for a 48" King Kutter. That is about $20 more then a 60" King Kutter costs in Pennsylvania.

If it's faded paint, you're probably looking at it at one of the poorly managed Tractor Supply Company stores (we have a great TSC in Hanover, PA and had a lousy one in York, PA...York store had a number of crappy looking King Kutter products. However, that store has moved into new facilities so I'm hoping better management has been introduced as well.).

Anyway, $599 is way too much for a 48" cutter, especially this time of year. They should be discounted now.

One caveat....steel prices have gone out of sight (thanks to China and our government rolling over), so there may be a surcharge rolled into the cost.

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

I agree. That's more than I paid for my 60" KK rotary cutter and I bought in the middle of summer three years ago. I can't imagine they've gone up THAT much.

Where in IL are you? I'll check with my local TSC tomorrow and see how much they're asking for them now. I know they're priced differently based on geography but that still sounds high to me...especially for one that's faded, etc.

Truth be told, the paint won't matter much after a few uses. King Kutter makes a darn good rotary cutter (I used to add "for the money" but I'll reserve that for now) but their paint is terrible. Besides, rotary cutters aren't used in ways that enhance paint finishes anyhow. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I like my KK rotary cutter and have no regrets about having gotten it. Unless you're going to use for really heavy growth with a lot of 3" trees, etc., I'd recommend the King Kutter.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

The 60" is $612 here in Akron. I bought a 48" last year for around $550, I've been very happy with it.
Good Luck,
Curt

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

I checked and I bought my 60" for $538.90 ($599 less 10%). They're now $613 here (a buck more than Akron, apparently). The 48" is currently retailing for $550 here (with UNfaded paint). I was told that the XB model (usually orange)of the 48" would be more money as they're a special design for sub compacts.

For what it's worth, I'd think $500 would be about right for the Category 1 48" with faded paint.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

That's more than I paid for my 5' kk a few years ago.. Add inflation.. and I think that is still a few bucks too high for a new 48" machine. If it is rusty.. it probably needs a few buck discount to boot.

As others have pointed out.. some tsc's have great management.. some don't. Our store in leesburg will discounted real old implements 5-10% and also line changes.. like when the new yellow KK hit.. the red stuff was moved at 5-10% off.

Then the store north in ocala will let an implement set untill it completely disappears into the ground and not give you a penny off.

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

I have a 72" KK, it is 3 years old, it was purchased from Fleet Farm in Wisconsin for $580.00. The only thing I would consider is adding a slip clutch, instead of replacing the shear pin.

Re: I\'m looking at kingkutter ruff cut mower.

The 48" KK rotary cutter is $581 and the KK 48" XB series rotary cutter is $662 at a TSC in Westminster, MD.
