Hi! Im new to tractor by net. My family and I have recently moved into my Grandmothers farm. My father still owns the property but is a horder and as horders are, keep everything and tend to have to many irons in the fire to take much time to do any thing about it. One of his most famous quotes are "Don't waste it!" and "Please keep the barn doors shut so nobody will see my junk." He has a very large Kubota, and several old broke down tractors he wont allow us to use, saying that we dont know how to drive them in fear they will fall apart, and therefore the farm is extremely grown up, so, i hope that I soon can purchase a tractor of my very own. I would like a smaller tractor, with bush hog, forks, and of course a bucket. Does anyone have any good advice as to what to get? Will a small tractor pull up fence post? I dont have much experiance but I cant wait to get to work at bringing my grandmothers farm back to the beutiful place it once was when she was alive and kickin!:D

:welcome: to TBN! What is your price range? Small tractors are capable of pulling fence posts. If your looking in the new range, check out the JohnDeere 2305 and 2320. Also, Check out Kubota's BX series and their B2320. My neighbor just got a new B2320 and he says he really likes the 3 range hydro tranny. Deere only offers 2 ranges. I do know that Deere will be getting new models and model numbers soon so the 2320 will become the 2023. I still dont know what the 2305 will be though. :( For the Deeres, the 300cx loader will best suit your lifting needs and with Johndeeres quick attach, you can easily remove the bucket and attach pallet forks. I dont think Kubota offers a quick attach system. The Deere 2305 and Kubota's BX series are all smaller frame tractors, with smaller wheels/tires, limited category 1 3 point hitch, sit lower to the ground. The 2320 and the B2320 are larger frames, larger wheels/tires, and sit higher off the ground.

Suggest getting the property deed before investing in equipment. Yes a small tractor will pull up a post.

Thanks for the great advise. Get the farm house and barns with 35 acres according to will, and if he looses the farm to mismanagement, ill need the tractor to bury him cause Ill kill him! LOL!

Welcome

Inquiring minds want to know what model is the large Kubota you already have access to...and are you allowed to drive it... if not, what is the perceived problem that prevents its use.

fence posts can be pulled with any reasonably sized tractor...techniques include...use a chain on 3ph to pull it out...rock back and forth to loosen it.
use FEL and chain to lift out of ground.

Read for a long time here on TBN.... many have gone before you with your exact same questions...many answers and opinions are archived here just waiting for rediscovery.

Given no more information than you have provided, It feels like you will need at least a 40hp tractor, or better. More info on size of property and what you plan to do will help.... and, is this something you will be spending a lot of time doing, or just on occasional weekends

Right at the moment im not sure what exact Kubota he has, but as for why he wont let me or my husband use it, is beyond me. He has a trust issue for sure. The strange thing is, is that my husband can operate a tractor with the best of them, and worked for my uncle driving his tractor for years. I tell my husband that when my father finally does let him behind the wheel of that tractor, and that day will come, that he will be behind it more than he wants to! I do wish dad would trust us with the use of it though, if only to keep the farm looking nice. It really is a shamble with the weeds so high they make fences and gates dissapear, leaving you in fear of what could be out there!

PS. I really do appreaciate all the great advise and friendly remarks from everyone replying!:D

OK, understand, we're in the realm of emotions and family situations and aging here ... logic will not address the situation or solve it. All the best to you, your husband and your dad as you seek to thread this path ... an obviously difficult time for each of you. :)
