John deere 5100m, mf1643 cab and kubota bx2370woods bb720x land pride disc and reverse tiller
I have a jd4066r it has had nothing but problems(recall axel leaks hydraulic problems they haven't fixed), only have about 150hrs on it and it's almost 2 years old. Dealt with corporate and they can care less. Dealer mentioned trading up to a 5 series. I do some row crops a small Christmas tree farm and deer food plots. Will it be worth the loss I'll take to move up. And will I notice a big difference in power etc

Also which 5 series would you recommend?

I own 2 Deere's (3 if you count the wife's riding mower) but am not a brand loyalist. I just happened to get deals that no other brand dealer could touch. If you had that many problems that weren't resolved, you might think about looking at something else. Yes you will take a big hit on a trade up unless the dealer is motivated to move existing stock 5 series models. I'm guessing the dealer knows all the problems with your 4066 and will use that to his advantage.

As far as which model in the 5 series, depends greatly on your intended uses. I have both a 4 and a 5 series tractor and live on heavily wooded property. because of this fact, I find I use the 4720 more than the 5M simply because it's more maneuverable and without a cab is less likely to be damaged working in the woods.

If you like the tractor how much would it cost to repair it? You are going to take a loss if you trade it in. I would compare the trade in cost loss to a repair cost and go from there. I've got a feeling that you are looking at several thousand dollars for the dealer to repair the leak. I estimate parts costs $500-$800 range. The rest is labor. Again these are just an educated wild guesstimate. Do you have access to a good mechanic that could repair it? That may be a lower cost alternative.

It doesn't make sense to give more business to a dealer that's let you down unless they're giving you a great deal on the tradein as a way to compensate you for the problems they have not been able to solve. But make sure it's really a good deal.

Well gee, that sounds like a real bummer. We are looking at the 4052. How has the dealer been for you through all this?

It should still be covered under warranty. But I keep hearing that the utility tractors hold up a lot better. I would like to switch from John deere but if I do I'll get killed in the trade in. The dealers I was dealing with have been horrible along with corporate

2 years old and 150 hrs? Isn't this unit still under warranty? I would tell that dealer to go pound sand if they recommended that I trade and take a huge loss no doubt.

I'd find another dealer, explain your problem(s), and see what they can figure out. Clearly, it should be fixable with a competent service dept and not try to fix it via the sales dept, where you get the shaft and they make out like a bandit.
