Re: I\'m not THAT old....yet
Highbeam,
Since I don't drink, I never have to worry about showing my birthdate when I try to buy alcohol... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.
The local Goodwill stores will give a a 10% discount in two months, when I hit the double nickle. While it's a nice perk to get reduced prices when you hit the 55, 60, or 62 year mark, it doesn't add up to much at my age. Most of my spending was done during my 30's and 40's, I've found that the older I get, the fewer wants I actually have. Used to buy thousands of dollars worth of stuff every year that I didn't really NEED, but WANTED. Now that I am retired and on a reduced (and fixed) income, those WANTS have really tapered off.
It may be morbid to think in this manner, but now, before I make any purchase over $100, I ask myself two questions:
1. Do I really need this item?
2. Will I use it enough to justify the expense?
I'm sure many of you guys are in the same situation, we are a lot more careful with our dollars than we were when younger. Sometimes I think the discounts given to older folks are just a means to get them to buy something they ordinarily would not purchase without a reduction in price.
'Scuse me for now, I going online shopping for a new T-shirt or cap, something that reads:
"GIMME MY (censored) SENIOR DISCOUNT".....and whoever gives me free shipping will make the sale.
