Gentlemen! Sorry to get back late, but I feel all warm and luv with all the sound advise and responses.

I agree, I need more than just welding, I need to do some metal fabrication here.

1/ I need to fix the blower housing, it's worn down through, I need to weld it shut.
2/ I'm going to weld a 1/4" thick by 2" wide on the top across the length of the blower. Then drill new holes for cutting edge.
3/ Get a new cutting edge.
4/ Get new skids.

I notice that these skids wear down so fast. Is there a modification some how to slow down the quick wearing down? Some type of Teflon, plastic shoes over the skids?

The good news. A friend has offered to help with his welder. All I need now is get some steel bar.

Once again, I really appreciated the helpful insight of all difference choices of welder. I think I'm going buy one in the future, base on the info I have here it will help me pick one.

I hope I will have time to be back and post some pictures.

on my old farmking blower, i installed weld on case hardened adjustable shoes inplace of the factory drag steel. They looked good after 8 years of hard use. I got mine at JD dealership for about $25/each way back when.

i also had to add bracing on the interior 3 rotator blades and wedges on my main auger cause they just kept bending. i got tired of straightening them out. skid.jpgskid shoe 1.jpgrepairs.jpg

Whatever you do get, make sure you get some scrap metal and spend an hour or so doing practice beads, especially since you say it's been a few decades since you did any serious welding

Next.
Drill holes and attach the second steel bar. Using this as a cutting edge.
Remove the blower off the tractor so my friend can do some welding on the bottom.
BTW, I bought a cheapo HF 70 AMP Arc welder. Can't wait to see if it works.
Retro-fitting the skids.

If you need anything else welded, let me know.. I live just outside Albany.. I'd be happy to help..
