How do you post an image in the message instead of as an attachment? Do you use the mark-up commands?
John Miller seems to have mastered the technique.
And is this the same technique that members use to include a "signature: picture or graphic with their post ?

Images are made to appear inline by using the [image] tags, but before you can do this, the image file has to reside on a server somewhere. If you don't have your own web space, the popular approach is to first upload it to TBN as an attachment, and then edit the message to refer to the URL of that file.

There has been controversy in the past (mostly by me, I guess /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif) about the usage of too many or too large inline picts. Although I am lucky enough to have a DSL setup, I know that not everybody enjoys a high-speed connection. I thought the conclusion of that controversy was that people would like having the option of seeing picts inline or upon request (something Muhammad would have to address), but lately I notice that even when some folks post a picture as an attachment, somebody else comes along and sticks it inline. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I guess no matter how you post a picture these days, it may or may not wind up inline. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Of course, since I don't really like to stir controversy, I will not raise this topic again. I enjoy the heck out of this board and its membership, including those who I may have indirectly referred to here. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

1) Attach image to post.
2) Copy the URL of the attachment to your clipboard (right click, copy shortcut)
3) Edit your message and use the [image] markup tag (instructions in the faq) to display the image.

Please don't place images over 500 pixels wide in a post.

FWIW --- I, like Harv, also think inline photos are a potential problem area. A few here and there, okay I suppose, but if everybody starts doing it ... TROUBLE. What's so hard about doing a link, which people can view IF they WANT TO.

So do you get a signature ( i.e., you signed you post with cursave Muhammed) the same way. Put it up on the server once and cut and paste it from then on ???

Harv,

re: inline pics.

At work it's no problem, except that I usually don't have time to peek at TBN /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif.

At home, where I'm far enough in the country to not have cable/DSL/whatever, my D/L speed is ~~ 24Kbps. So the inlines tend to be a real pain. I now stab the <ESC> key to stop the download if it's looking like a pic that I don't need at the moment.

I tried it and it worked, but the post still had both the attachment and the "inline " image. what did I do wrong?

Most of this type of post I see, there is not the attachment anymore?
Thanks a lot
Todd

Looks to me like you followed the instructions perfectly.

Once an image exists on a server then the url can be copy/paste/image markup into the message without the attachment file.
