The old International sure had its hands full with that BFR (Big "Fine" Rock). I am not sure that my tractor would have pulled it up out of the hole.

View attachment 616718I have ONE really large rock. So dam big - it can be seen in the Google image of my property. Many years ago I though about moving it. But after a search on the web - found a "rock weight" chart - estimated weight 18,000 to 22,000 pounds.

Now I think it looks just fine where it is - right out in the middle of my upper pasture.

Since then I've thought about splitting it into pieces. So far - it's just been "thinking".

Google image from 2800 feet up.

Nice rock. It is just part of the landscape...

Well, it rained quite a bit today,, I am positive the IH would be "stumped" by that rock today,,
and,, we are supposed to get rain most of the rest of the week,,
luckily, I got the rock to a good location.

If you can get an old car or truck hood under it, you will be able to move it easily anywhere on your property.
An old hood is 10 bucks in any junk yard. It glides over a lawn or gravel road without messing it up to bad.

Just tie a rope to two corners and pull it anywhere with your tractor DRAWBAR..

Back when I was a kid on the farm we used to pull out large rocks with a modified plow shank that we had welded two handles to and sharpened the point. The few that were too big for that we dig down besides them and used dynamite to pop them out of the ground. If we were lucky, they would look like they had been lifted up and set down besides the hole waiting for us to drag them off but if we were unlucky they would shatter into many smaller pieces that we had to pick up by hand.

Many years later back in the 70's I recall seeing a huge rock in the ditch besides a new road they were building, bigger than the box on a cube van. They said it was a "glacial erratic" left there when the Laurentide ice sheet retreated.

A few years after that we were building a power line through a community pasture out west and I was running the radial arm digger truck. I set up to dig the hole and when I was about 4 feet deep I hit a rock dead on center so I picked up and moved over a couple of feet and when down 4 feet again I again hit it. I tried again a couple of feet further down the line and same thing. I picked up and swung around to the other side of the truck so over 30 feet from the farthest hole on the other side and same thing happened there also but at a slightly different depth. I had to pick up and move a considerable distance to get past that obstruction so one span was a little on the long side. I've dug through lots of rock and from the way the auger just stopped going down and didn't bounce around any, it definitely seemed like it was on top of a single BIG rock.

I have a rock roughly that size that is now a decorative seat. It is sandstone so nowhere near as heavy as that one. I dragged/pushed it with my CK30 to where I wanted it. I have shifted it a couple of times now.
