Impact screw drivers?

I also prefer Square drive.
We all grew up with Phillips head screws but they have about zero advantages over square or torq. I prefer square drive but there are not nearly the assortment of sizes etc available (yet) compared to Phillips head.

I seem to remember full page ads about Phillips screws, in magazines of the 1940's and 1950's. The main point was that they could be installed by power without marring the surrounding material by slipping out like a slotted head does.

Can anyone explain why these impact drivers only come with batteries and not corded? I would get one in a heartbeat if I could get one with a cord.

Also, what's the difference between the impact driver and the hammer option on my drill? Maybe I already have one and don't know it.

I do think the hammer symbol is the "impact" setting. I don't have access to mine right now to check.

Then only thing worse than a phillips is the flat-heads. I honestly dont even know why they are still made and used.

I actually like the star drive better than the square. But both are miles ahead of phillips.

A hammer drill is a different animal. Made for drilling concrete. If using that setting on a drill instead of an impact driver, when it torques down it will twist the drill out of your hand unlike an impact.

That's interesting you seek a 120v corded version in the 1/4 inch shank drive. Most of the newest cordless versions are advertised with slightly more powerful specifications, along with the latest brushless technology, and the extended run time from a pair of 4.0 or 5.0 amp hr batteries are supposed to give day long performance.

Any certain job requirements?

Or just personal preference :D

I have so many corded tools I haven't used in so long its really a shame.

Hammer drills and impact drivers do have definite different mechanical actions

There certainly are tools that I prefer corded.

Circular saw, angle grinder, saw-zall (if working with metal), drill (if drilling metal), and a few others.

But having a drill and impact driver in a corded version is very handy

I have so many different battery tools with dead batteries. Usually the cost of replacement batteries pushes me to buy new tools, with newer/different battery types. Use them for a while and then they sit for long periods of time unused. When I need them again, dead battery. I also hate getting half way through a project and having to stop to recharge. My corded tools always work, and I always have a/c available. Personal preference I guess.
