Long story short, my 7ft no-name blower behind my MF 255 blew the gearbox. I lost all my oil. Luckily I stopped it before it ruined the gears but my bearings are toast. So I’ve started tearing things apart to get the gearbox out and I’m assuming the impeller shaft needs to be pulled to remove the gearbox. I haven’t tried removing the impeller yet but by the looks of things, how screwed am I? Picked this blower up cheap last year and now I know why. Looks like it’s welded right to the shaft! I’m planning on cutting the washers off to get a better look but I ran out of daylight.

It would be slid on the shaft with the bolt holding it. Guessing it's rusted hard after many years. I wonder if the washers are intentionally welded on the impellor (not the shaft) to limit how far the impellor can be pushed on.

It looks threaded inside…. I wonder if bolt fell out and rust is whats holding it together. Was this used? Upon further exam of photo, it does look welded. If its used i wonder if previous owner welded it instead of rebolting it. I had to pill mine to repair housing damage, had to use a gear puller after removing bolt

That’s what I’m hoping. The guy I bought it off of said it was fully rebuilt last year, but who knows the truth to that. The rest of the blower is in amazing shape.

I should have mentioned, I just took the bolt out. That’s as far as I got tonight. Yes it was used but was sold all rebuilt. This is my second winter with it.

I bet you can take it off with a 2-4jaw gear puller. Or you may need to drill/tap two holes in the impeller along with a plate across the center bolt to pull it.

Its prob half seized on and possibly even pressed on. Cutting the tiny little tack welded on washer off may help but not much.

When I narrowed my snowblower several years ago I ran across this same washer welded to the impeller. (The whole sad story is here....


When I put it all back together I did not weld the washer to the fan and soon discovered why it had been welded at the factory. The fan slid back on the shaft and was scraping the back wall.
Good luck with removing your impeller....don't be discouraged by my luck.
