Found this on a new piece of land. It's got tons of spikes on it and a lever that adjusts the angle of the spikes.

Can someone tell me what it is? What it does to the ground? Why and when would I use it?

Pretty small so I'm thinkin it would be best behind my 4 wheeler or ranger 500 crew?

TIA,

J

That is a spike harrow.

I agree with the Spike Harrow concept. The previous owner probably used it to loosen up the soil or perhaps to break up manure piles in a field or garden plot if a chain harrow wasn't available. Just my thoughts.BTW, it appears that it made have been Homemade.

Thanks! So is it used to break up dirt clumps after discing? Or does it help put seed into ground after spreading?

I also found a long oil pipe with chain on both ends. Thinking that may be used as a drag. When is dragging necessary during the process of planting ?

TIA.

It is for busting up clumps of sod after plowing or discing, also as mentioned to bust up manure and prepare a smother seed bed,
